M-14 in Afghanistan

regardless of all this new fangled platform versus the tried and true usgi m14.........
I'm a civvie.... my m14 suits my "operational needs" and has been tuned to it's highest capabilty.... within the scope of my capability. Spare parts are not an issue..... I have enough to outlast me.
I think it's cool that there IS in fact, at this time, genuine usgi m14 rifles of various config being feilded by U.S. soldiers in both afganistan and in iraq.
I won't pretend to know enough to comment on either side of the current argument/discussion.

But this thread started out about the m14 ..... not the xm what ever it's called...... hehehe

cool to see the pool of knowledge here though , very insightfull.

i'll be happy with my m14, cuz she is my rifle, many others like her...... but this one is mine  :sniper:

Yep, 45 years after the rifle was "replaced" the M14 is viable on the modern battlefield... amazing.

I always love pics of marine shooters. No matter how awesome the gear was to start, they always have field mods on it to make it shoot better.

I do wonder about all the pics I see of the harris bipods on to fold towards them though.

My question would be... "Who" took those photo's of the Marines in Afghanistan with the new platform...;) And "who" took the photo of the M14's...

Cheers

Hmm to further navigate this topic away from its intended course of discussion.. .I noticed a Celestron spotting scope. Are they any good?? I picked up one at a pawn shop for $50 a few years ago.

I think so as well, but I would prefer to keep my head 4 inches lower if I can. No idea what situation he is in though. I am sure he has a much better idea what he is doing then I, but that is what jumped out at me in the pic. 1000 words.

Also note the screaming eagle patch on his left shoulder.....101st Airborne. most of there M14's have good quality optics(leupold mark v) and are just as tight as a hungrified Norc. The couple I actually got to handle overseas (no I did not fire them) actually had less of a ping to them than my hungry welfared Norc.

I still love the M-14 platform and think it is a great battle rifle, but for the DM program? I am not sold on it.

I still want Kevin to push for us Crazy Canuks to get them here. I know it is a pipe dream but if we could?????

Don't get me wrong, but the M14 was a super rifle! Today, it just ain't the 'platform' that modern weapons systems are required to be. And all of you know how much I love this boomstick... but I compete with an AR! :D But don't let that stop you from showing up to the Service Rifle matches with your clinic tweaked M14

JayT: Thanks for the kind words. I hope you are spreadin' the M14 love in Edmonchuk! ;)

What? You're not shooting the M14 you've been building to SM?? Snif...I'm going to be the only one again this year on the firing line? :(

Don't get me wrong, the AR-10 can be a nice rifle - mine sure was!
At the end of the day though... I wanted a robust, reliable and accurate rifle so I sold off that AR to fund another MK14.

I am very happy with the upgrade
