PPSh 41 build--Shotgun News

I just happen to have a cnc plasma table in my garage. If some enterprising fellow was to send a true dxf. file my way I could very likely cut some parts for " research and development " of a ppsh semi auto receiver. Have a look at the plasma cam web site to see the table I bought. I'd hot link it but I don't know how( nor do I care to learn). Some where I have the book sub-machine gun designers hand book. It's got drawings of the sten and the ppsh. Good book, but Its burried somewhere in all my crap.

I built a SAS-2 Sten from scratch (see my thread on it) it's fired a max of 3 rounds at a time, but it is a newly built semi-auto only firearm.

I was at a Florida Gunshow last weekend, and was briefly hands on with a Semi-auto only PPSH-41. NICE, but alas, not going to work in Canada with parts of the old receiver re-used.

Interestingly, the guy who had it at his booth also had a nice, non-matching No4 Mk I (T) with mis-matched wood, no scope, a (poor) scope-mount repro. It was a bloody shame he was selling it for $1800 US.

also my open bolt semi sten has been approved, as soon as it finished and registered ill get a range report

That's excellent news !

As it has been approved does that mean it will be good to go straight away, or have you been asked to send it in ?

the tech at the cfc said it might have to go in for testing/inspection. the proposal was accepted as a sound design so , it will pass im sure.

In that case I'm sure it will pass the inspection too. It will be good to be able to make homemade open bolt stens and register them without a song and a dance.

I have a feeling there will very soon be several new open bolt guns approved.

hedgehog If and mostly WHEN you get your FRT No and registration, please drop me a line with as many pictures and measurements as possible so I can try my hand at one too. ;)

And I'd like your permission to translate the tutorial should you accept to do one, on the french canadian forum (extreme-precision) I'm on and on milsurp too.

I've talked to "jetsum" in the US. He’s the guy who made that cool bending jig that the yanks are using for their LEGAL semi auto pps-43. Anyway he's willing to make a full length jig for us cheap. This would solve ONE of the problems that were being discussed in the thread. Now we need to figure out how to cut the flats.

Hedgehog: if I took bighammers blueprints and made a solidworks model of them, could you cnc a couple of flats?

Cheers
Mark

I think before anyone invests too many funds making an open bolt PPSH, or any other open creation, you will want to wait and see where Spencer's (aka pob / wallflower/not banned/ stenconnector/stencolector/snow white, mick, etc etc) open bolt attempts take him. By the grapevine, it sounds like they have all become prohib. His use of the semi auto sten FRT (SAS3) has also led to it being looked at. I hope not too many of you have sent him cash for his creations, as it would be hard to imagine that he will stand behind the loss of his product to his customers. No doubt he will blame the RCMP labs and tell you you are on your own after the RCMP collect the gun.

A closed bolt system, while a PITA, is much more likely to meet with success.

That gentleman recently posted photos of a parts kit from an as new Polish PPSh. You know, one of the parts kits that are readily available in Canada. Any time soon, he will be posting photos of his recently completed open bolt PPSh, will describe how the supportive the CFC was of his efforts, and will ridicule anyone who would consider a closed bolt version.

But the prohibition will have nothing in particular to do with his gun, but will be part of a vast conspiracy.
