M-14 in Afghanistan

i dont think anyone is disputing that they are in use .

anyone reading this thread will say that the M14 is a good rifle. we all love it.

i think some of us are just having a hard time understanding why you wont accept the fact that the US military is upgrading their DMR rifles

How does the DMR ARs perform in really bad combat conditions? Could that be one of the reasons the M14 is still in demand for enhancement.

Who cares how the rifle looks! If Grandpa on spandex could kick ass what's the diff.

No matter how modernized is it..still looks old ... like a Grandpa wearing spandex :D

if you look at the timeframe of the ar series ( late 50's for r&d- as early as 64 for fielding) and the timeframe of the m14( don't include the m1) fielded 57-63 typically, you'll see that there isn't10 years between them- so the ar series isn't hardly new either- as for bullpups , look at the old bushmaster armpistol
if you want to make it modern looking, take the 14 and stick it in that isreali stock(sr89) bullpup and see where that gets you

nice optic mount there... betcha that would hold zero real well being tossed around and smashed on the rocks a few times

sooo... how many people here who have been singing the M14's praises have ever fired one FA?

they are a fine rifle in a support role.

i have, and it's no worse than than any light mg chambered for 308- you just do the 3 or 5 shot burst thing, same as you were taught with the fnc2, g3whatever the fa designation was., maybe the bren, etc- point is the barrels too light for a full auto 20 round burst- and climbs uncontrolably- however with the proper grip( bipod down, left hand on the top of the buttstock, weight bearing on the bipod( actually pushing forward) it can group almost as accurately as the rifle- ie all 20 rounds onto about a 4 inch circle- with a fresh m14a1 - right out of the bag, ( they come in vci bags) and the old brengun prone stance- it's only when there is no firing dicipline that it becomes uncontrollable
