top .45?

I've been researching the 1911 market and scored the last Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail Kodiak Outpost had. My budget was $2800. I got a $3000 gun for $1400, in a Commander size and in 10mm. And it truely is a marvel of old school American craftsmanship seldom encountered these days. Hand-fitted, de-horned, heavy match barrel, Ed Brown parts, exotic hardwood grips etc. I'm really impressed with the gun.

My second choice would have been either a Les Baer, Ed Brown or Rock River Arms.

They are but try to hold/handle one first because they use a double stacked magazine and some have found the grip a tad on the large size....

a bit large yes, not enough to cause me to turn away though. i have an N frame smith revolver, if memory serves it isn't any larger than that.
