Russian SKS45 long thread.

Took my x2 '53s out for the first time on Saturday. First time ever firing any SKS and I was very impressed - accuracy with open sights at 100m was better than I'd expected based on everything I'd read (expectations set low I guess ;)

Unfortunately 1 of the two seemed to have an issue with light primer strikes (5%?) vs. no misfires with the other. Preliminary reading seems to suggest a number of possible issues could be root cause, so I've got some investigative troubleshooting ahead. I'll add that it was -28 so it may have been a factor of the cold vs. some left over gunk/cosmoline somewhere...

All in all, very happy with these.

Interested to know what kind of groupings did you get?

I didn't even hit the paper at 50M, but groupings were good at 25M.

But then again the sights haven't been adjusted yet; we'll just have to wait and see what happens when I get my tool in from Brownells.

I was shooting with 3 friends and it was 3' deep snow all the way to the 100' backstop, so targets weren't being changed or checked frequently enough to relate grouping info reliably, but we had an 83:100 ratio holes:rounds fired in 1 of the two targets (various off-hand positions from 100y, 11x17 100y sighting target). I look forward to doing some more shooting to see what they'll do from the bench. For a 'battle rifle' (or deer hunting in eastern Ontario's bush) they're certainly a light, easy handling and reasonably accurate firearm.

Surprisingly "Light, easy handling, reasonably accurate and good Ontario bush rifle" is basically how I felt when I shot my SKS for the first time. It has consistently (over 300 rounds) shot 5-6" groupings at 100 yard. Nothing to write home about, but each one would have been enough to take a deer out with a SP round. I am guessing it will do better at 50-70 yards, where you usually expect to aim at a deer in Ont. bushes. Frankely, my brand new scoped 30-06 may not see action for a while.

bought two box's of S&B soft points from target just for deer hunting this session. Man..they are expensive!

Why not grabbing the phone and calling?

Waiting for email response from them, and didn't want to pester the guy... i figured they must field enough calls about the sks'.
Thought I would tap the CGN resource and see if anyone knew first.

You sure put me in my place:confused:

Oh well.... maybe SIR's orders may show up in the mean time..

If i were Moving Target, i would wanna rush my sks' out the door before SIR's come in at half the price.

I called today and was told the new due date (from magazine pinning) is the 10th of March; may or may not be...
Al Simmons in Hamilton Ont has a truckload of them, all matching except the trigger group; mostly Tula from 53-54. $220-250 each.

Just got the call from Sidney I. Robinson ... sorry Cabela's Canada ...

these are not the $169 Chinese models, but rather the Russian ones - for $239 ... however for the first 200 customers that had been on the old waiting list, there is a $40 discount - $199 for a Russian.

Plus crates of ammo for $199 + just $10 shipping.

Glad I held in there. Now what am I going to do with 5 Russians ... hope they're all good looking so that we can party ...

My order was early Oct 07 when they advertised a shipment of 100 Chinese rifles.

Few months later they were advertising 250 Russians enroute. I thought it was a diferent order so I called them and they assured me that I was on the list - so obviously something changed and they got in on it.
