USA Manufactured bolts in Norinco M305

Ya know, I wish Marstar could bring in just the receivers. Its the only good part on the darn thing anyway. Jeezz.. by the time I finished my 305 project the majority of it had been swapped out. The op-rod and barrel are useable for now but the rest of it was trash imo. This thing ended up being a $2500... $400 gun.

First its the stock, than its the rear sight, then its the op=rod spring guide, then its the bolt, then its the.....

LMAO!!! :D I just spent $50 on rear sight parts, now I'm putting a Marstar order together for an op-rod guide and shims.... and I was just thinking to myself "I'm gonna probably spend $400 fixing up this NEW $400 gun".

.... AND I HAVEN"T EVEN SHOT ONE ROUND OUT OF IT YET! :50cal:

Oh well.

What you need to complete the project is Pure American Bolt Goodness:p:p

Yeah, but it's worth it IMHO. When you do get to your range, you'll agree.

for the most part there is nothing wrong with the norc parts..... other than bolts headspacing large.... although the chinese prolly planned it this way..... the rear sights are serviceable on 1/2 of em..... and the flash hiders are hit and miss on machining dimension...... other than that..... the norc parts are pretty damn good quality.

why spend 275 to 325 on a usgi bolt if your rifle shoots surplus just fine? (then there is the out to lunch price i just saw in the EE for over 400 for a stripped bolt LOL)

if you want simple upgrades to your norinco, stick with the following.
match oprod guide, sadlak, rooster, marstar
wolfe or usgi recoil/oprod spring
set of garand rear sights
maybe replace the flash hider with usgi, smith ent.... ect.....

attend a M14 clinic if possible and bed the rifle or replace the stock to birch/walnut boyds or usgi.... or usgi fiberglass or an alternate fiberglass stock.

It's easy to get carried away, save the high end stuff for a complete overhaul and custom build..... if your shooting needs dictate.

X2, good advice here.

Why buy any more parts for a gun that already shoots good and functions fine.

You are all correct. Save yer money! You wanna boomstick that shoots accurately? Buy a Savage FP whatever.... or a Remmy M700P or LTR or Milspec 5R or VTR

Don't spend too much money unless you truly must have a tight shooting M14, and then M14Doctor or I can advise you how to spend your money. :D

expert armorers have suggested that headspace in a USGI rifle with even bolt bearing "should" remain infinate after many 1000's of rounds...... so essentially they are suggesting the bolt itself ..... ie: the lugs, have a VERY VERY long life.
as long as hardness values of the bolt and receiver are to usgi spec or similar..... i would suspect this to also be true of norc bolts receivers.

It is a darn good idea to hang on to any spare bolt internals however.... and not a bad idea to have a spare bolt kicken around to barter, trade.... or save for a rainy day ;)

I think with the newer tight US State Dept. export rules its about time we have a Canadian firearms manufacture. I think we all know why no one is willing to make a large scale investment to get even a small manufacture up and running, although you would think with the large unemployment in the manufacturing circles in Ontario, the provincial and federal government would jump on to this opportunity (we ALL know why this will never happen).

It is a shame that political ideology will get in the way of a great 'made in Canada' industry - unfortunately it is typical is what is happening in our country.

Sorry for getting off topic...

Yes there is a demand for any USGI spec components, there are ALOT of M14 owners looking to get upgrade parts. I personally would love to see a Canadian made M14 forged receiver with an integrated picatinny rail and would easily pay the going rate (LBR rates) for a couple!!
