So i'm thinking about buying a 1911A1 type pistol. I know about the Norc being a great buy for the money but it seems like it needs tweeking to get it working well.

The alternative I'm considering is a new Kahr made Auto Ordnance pistol that costs about 80% money money than a Norc. Is it worth it? Will it just work as is without any frustration or need to tweek?

Are there any suggestions for another all steel, close to 1911A1 design. pistol to consider? Cost is a factor. At about $600 for an Auto Ordnance, I don't want to go much more.

If you're on a tight budget, Springfield GI would be your best pick. Or you could try to find a used Colt, but I wouldn't buy one unless I had a chance to inspect it first.

If you don't want a Norinco (which is probably the best deal) than I would recommend you look at Taurus 1911 line. Not sure what their prices are right now, when I bought a mine almost a year ago it was the only resonably priced loaded stainless 1911. Now it's probably my favorite gun (along with the Beretta 92 of course! :)

Do not fear "tweaking".
Unless you have ten thumbs on your hands, tweaking a Norc is childs play. The 1911 platform is probably the most simple firearm to play/tweak with. At $350 and a little effort, it can become a very nice reliable pistol.

I actually got to handle the Taurus 1911 last weekend at Epps and it felt very nice. The gentleman on the other side of the counter actual;ly recommended it over the STI Trojan!

According to the website of some aftermarket suppliers, some 1911 parts will not fit a Taurus, wheras all 1911 parts fit a Norc because it is a Colt clone.

If you ever need a bushing, slide stop, safety, etc., getting a Colt clone part is easy. Taurus servcie in canada is reported as poor.

You're not going to get more 1911A1 for your money than with the Spartan.

STI Spartans are back! Still the very best deal on a quality .45. For $879 you get a finely fitted smooth slide to frame fir, match barrel correctly fitted, extended safety, full length guide rod, fiber optic front and adjustable rear sight, front and rear slide serrations, Philippine mahogany diamond checkered grips, carbon fiber trigger (adjusted to a crisp 3.5 lbs thanks to a match hammer and sear), nicely fitted beavertail grip safety, 8 round magazine, and beveled mag well. Case, manual, bushing wrench (yes, that match bushing is snug :)

As far as i'm concerned the 1911 is the backbone of any gun collection. Don't cheap out. You'll never regret dropping a few extra bucks on a quality 1911.
