SIR/Cabela SKS pics

I guess they'll make good "shooters"
I'm disapointed they aren't at all as the girl described to me on the phone, not nearly as nice as the two I got from Frontier, and when mine arrives it'll be in the EE

I'm not impressed with the pictures I've seen of the black painted refurbs I'm seeing coming from S.I.R.

I got the call last week and the girl said they were all "unissued surplus rifles" that were in great shape. I asked if they were refurbed and had black paint on them, and she said that none of them did.

I just received an e-mail telling me I've got a parcel in the system with Canada Post. I almost felt like canceling after I saw the pictures posted here. I guess I'll have to wait and see what I get.

I don't like how they quoted us one price and now are trying to bump it up claiming to have a better product, and all they have are refurbs.

Actually the black paint on my SIR piece isn't too bad. I too prefer blued metal, but I was pleasantly surprised with the painted finish.

Their original phone message to me described them as 'mint condition, never issued', 1946 Tula SKS' , but I knew that would be too good to be true. They employ general workers, many who just view it as a job, and who aren't as knowledgeable as staff at a dedicated firearms shop. Hence everyone gets a different answer from every unknowledgeable clerk.;)

Anyways, I digressed. If your SKS will be anything like the one I got I think you'll be happy with it. Maybe not exactly as described by them, but overall very nice pieces for the price.

Got an email from cabella's about my outstanding order. I had asked what number I was on the list and if I might geta rifle.

"We did receive a shipment of 200 only, the 1945 Russian SKS it has true tula arsenal markings, is in very good condition, comes with bayonet, sling and cleaning kit in stock, the wood is also in very good condition. These SKS come in at $239.99 but we are offering a $40.00 discount and sell at $199.99. You have ordered 2 Sks 's and are 201st on our list, however there was an order cancelled and I have commited 1 to your order, if there is another cancellation I will commit that 1 to your order as well. Please advise if you would like to substitute this SKS for the other."

Thanks Steiner, I'm glad you're happy with your rifle!

I'm beginning to realize I need to take a couple of grains of salt with whatever S.I.R. tells me. Even a firearms guy who handled them, told me today the carriers are in the white and not painted black (while I'm looking at pictures of your refurb.)

I guess I'll know what I got when I'm opening up the box.

Yeah, that's bordering on bait and switch. I don't like it either. Especially when I have an e-mail stating the rifles I would receive are Russian and quoted at $165 each.

I envy the guys who received late production guns in mint condition from other places. It would be nice if we were getting the same rifles for less.

well SIR may still bring in the $165 SKS but how knows what conditing will it be in ?

look at it this way, i paid for 3 at $325 shipped to my door each and none was anything close to being un-issued , one was badly scratched and gouge.

this is like a box of chocolates , you never know what you gonna get.....LOL.

Yeah, you might as well have waited for the S.I.R. shipment if they were all banged up.

Here's hoping we get some nice ones!:)

I've seen pics now of two from the Bell importation, that were kinda gray looking in color. They looked like someone treated them for painting with a primer, but forgot to top coat them with black. One was being advertised as being a bright bolt, which it was not. But I guess it was brighter than black.........

Latest email from Cabella's. I asked why price has gone up from $169 to $199.

The SKS advertised at $169.99 originally ordered is only in fair condition, with no markings, some have bayonets some without and the wood is in rough condition, hence the price differance.
Thank you,

Thank you,

Does anyone have the original SIR Ad laying around? I don't recall them being described as only fair condition with bad wood etc. etc.

The ad:
Russian SKS Type 56 Semi-Automatic Rifle

Back by popular demand, these surplus rifles feature 5 shot top feed magazine with hinged floor plate. 20” barrel with folding bayonet. Very Good condition. Produced in Russia. 7.62 X 39mm Caliber.

Cat. No. 410050

Price: $ 165.99

Yeah, this sounds more lame everyday.

I think we can actually take them to the BBB over this.

Technically, last Summer they sent us letters and e-mails confirming what the price was on these rifles, and the ad states the condition expected.

It isn't our fault or problem if they ran into price increases or delays on their end.

We weren't ordering, or being offered Chinese rifles, or rifles in less than "very good" condition.

It would be interesting to see how the BBB ruled on this.

Did anyone save a copy of a print ad or the webpage after they corrected it to read SKS45?

Well, my SIR SKS showed up today (sorry, no photo yet), and as I was afraid of, it is not as described to me on the phone.
It is a '51 Tula - pretty much identical to the pics in Stiener's first post.
How anyone could not see its a refurb is beyond me - numbers don't match,electro-penciled, stock is stamped 3x for cryin out loud!
Worst of all is the butcher job they did to pin the mag.
I guess for the $$ its still a decent rifle, but since I have two (nicer) others I think this one will be down the road.
