SIR/Cabela SKS pics

Where else can these rifles be found? I've looked and looked.

i dont know where you live .

al simmons is $229 , dont know how much they charge to ship .

cheaper at home hardware in yorkton $200 but shipping $40 .

both of them are bell .

Well, my SIR SKS showed up today (sorry, no photo yet), and as I was afraid of, it is not as described to me on the phone.
It is a '51 Tula - pretty much identical to the pics in Stiener's first post.
How anyone could not see its a refurb is beyond me - numbers don't match,electro-penciled, stock is stamped 3x for cryin out loud!
Worst of all is the butcher job they did to pin the mag.
I guess for the $$ its still a decent rifle, but since I have two (nicer) others I think this one will be down the road.

I'm sorry to hear that.

So far, I don't think I have heard of anyone receiving a non-refurb from them.

I don't have high hopes of receiving what was described to me on the phone.

They do look like they were welded by a blind student on his first day.

Not only that, but the heat from the welding, of course, burnt the finish off the bottom of the mag so they took what looks to be a grinder to it to clean it up, destroying the serial number which they restamped on the side of the mag..So you are now left with a big patch of shiny, unfinished metal on the bottom of the mag.
Very amateurish.

They're dirty, rotten butchers!

The other method used looks much cleaner, and doesn't destroy the aesthetics of the rifles.

My order arrived today from S.I.R.

Blackened refurbs in their second birch stocks. All the trigger groups, and one of the bolt carriers, have been electro-stenciled.

I think I'm going to put them on the EE as soon as I can join.

1953 Tula from SIR

Mine arrived today, refurb and black like the rest except most numbers match. The barrel is not chome-lined. Was it just 1953 without the lining? Maybe, that makes this one really, really rare and worth more than the $232.51 I paid! Any huge offers out there?
Geoff

should be chrome.

If it's a 53 the barrel is chrome lined. Your barrel is just painted over during refurb.

I just ran some Hoppe's with a bronze brush and a few patches through it and it still doesn't look like a chrome lining. It was really dirty, so maybe they sprayed that flat black crap down the inside of the barrel as well as the outside. Right now I have a cold and the solvent fumes are driving me nuts, so I'll let it sit for a few days and try again. Thanks for the comments.

My 53 does not look chromed either. My other ones have a chrome ring around the inside of the muzzle. The 53 looks like all of my older blued rifles.

I bought a rifle from sir a couple of years ago , it was on sale when i went in they told me it was only certain calibers, the following time i went in I saw the ad on the tv screen they have way up by the cash registers , it stated ALL calibers , I went to management and we had an in store arguing /screaming match . In the end I ended up with a refund of the difference from what I paid and what they advertised . I see the "old" staff and management still in there , and it still (in my opinion) has a lot of what I consider bait and switch , BUT! it is getting better , just gotta stand firm , and stand up for your rights and of course threatening consumer protection action doesn't hurt either. Just tell them you'll file a complaint if they don't ante up. and don't back down even if you already have taken posession of the rifle/s.

Hey take a look at SIR's website. If it wasn't for the fact that they are now owned by Cabelas " WORLDS FOREMOST OUTFITTER" you would think they are a company on the verge of going out of business. Everything they sell is backordered. How does a business with nothing to sell stay in business?

Cheer up, take your Russkie out and shoot the crap out of it. I just got home from the Chilliwack gunshow and there was a beat up Norinco SKS-D that the guy wanted $700. for.

I cleaned it up some more today and also looked at the forced serial numbers. I am quite sure the barrel is not chrome-lined and the receiver cover (with the 1953 date) is not the original as it has a serial number newly scribed on the rear surface. So now is it rare and worth lots of money? LOL

Hmmm.......

I was okay with the idea of a mixed serial number, arsenal refurb and could live with the painted metal or butchered mags, but the idea of non-chromed or painted bores hardly inspires confidence in the rifle even just as a shooter. Hopefully some of them will have laminate stocks and at least one of mine will have a chromed bore......otherwise that one year wait while I passed by a Frontier SKS would hardly be worth the trouble.

We'll just have to wait and see.

My 53 is a total match. All serial numbers match. Even the stock. Bluing is consistently nice all over. The only issue, the shellac has orange peeled in a few spots on the stock. No black paint any where. This thing looks like it has just sat in a crate in storage for the last 56 years and was forgotten about.

check what receiver yours have (if not sure see sticky) , a 53 should be a late russian , the receiver with NO mill step, if so then yours have chrome bore .
