We submitted this for classification back in January (during the SHOT Show in fact)...

As of yesterday it is still not "determined".

We have been given an FRT # but we've been told that classification is still pending.

The FRT # is still not actively showing in the system and probably won't become "live" until a classification is assigned.

Cool. Thanks for the quick reply.

What are your gut feelings on the chance of winning your reclassification appeal??? You might not be able to comment at this point, and I fully understand if that's the case, but if you could possibly give us an indication it would be much appreciated......

I dont' believe that it's a variant... it is a new design, with significant differences from anything that came before it. Other than the stock I don't believe there's much interchangability either so it's not simply a modified version of the 550/551 Prohibs. If not for similar appearance there would be no issue at all about it being a "variant" (in my opinion).

Having said that, there is no clear definition (in the Firearms Act) on what consitututes a "variant" and pages have been written on that topic.

In the end they will decide what they decide... no point in conjecture.

ahem..GSG-5 cough, cough... ;)

The GSG-5 was advertised and promoted by the manufacturer (right at the SHOT Show when it was unveiled) as being an MP-5 variant. They called it an MP5 in .22 caliber. That's how they marketed it so there was no real choice other than to classify it as a variant here... they did it to themselves.

If you're going to quote statements then quote the entire statement I made... wherein I said that appearance is similar and on that basis they may well still classify the 522 as a variant.

Discussing this is stupid and I now regret even responding. The more people comment on here the more ammunition that is being given to CFC to perhaps decide in an unfavorable way. This is best left alone until they reach a decision.
