Camp cooking, spam

not much love for spam here, didn't the UK live off of the stuff during the war? I think its great bush survival food, just salt fat and protein.

It's mostly just lips and #######s and pig peckers.....all the #### that gets steam blasted off the carcass after all the normal meat is gone.

Getting a wad of pig hair in your can of Spam is usually enough to change most peoples taste for it.

I'd rather eat bugs.
 
Our camp recipy for spam is NEVER EVER EVER !!!!!!.Had it yrs ago at home and said never again.Our camp would rather live with the chicken made hot dogs which are chicken lips and #######s,but NEVER spam !!!!
 
My old man use to make me eat that crap twice a week when i was a kid. I would rather eat something dumbdawg would eat, rather than eat that again!

for me I love the corned beef in a can, spam too.. as of lately though, I can't handle the sodium,.. I wake up like I have a hangover after eating these tasty camp goods,... I used to take salth fish and salt caplin, klik ham, jerky, etc etc... I will eat it someone elses camp, or have it once in a while, but now I go for the stuff with less salt :(

Usually beans, rolls, noodles, ...or fresh meat..chicken and such

I hates not bein able to eat what I wants :mad:
 
Tried spam at hunting camp. Needed a bottle of HP sauce to kill the taste. Second time with fried onions it wasn't that bad. At the weeks end hunger started to take over.

Our guys do the sardine sandwich thing with bermuda onions.

We used to buy cases of Spork and put it into our drop bags and other emergency kits.It was so gross, hardly anyone was ever tempted to eat it. Newfs being the exceptions ;)
 
My Dad used to feed us the following;
1x can Spam diced
1x lge can stewed tomatoes
1 x bag elbow macaroni (boiled of course)

I hated it when I was a kid. Real macaroni was KD & weiners.
I would smother that crap that Dad fed us with ketchup. Today, I'd be the 1st for 2nds.
 
Spam.... Must be cooked....


HP or peppery hot sauce works too...


For best results mix with hash browns or something
 
Hunting season, mainly big game season is upon us and I will begin my walking regime again to limber up. Also started training today and had Spam hash with crisp bacon bits and onions today. MMMmm Spam.
 
Interesting thread. What is a good corned beef hash recipe and what is a good brand to buy? I've never had it and I don't think I've ever eaten Spam.

Fry it up in camp along with some fried canned potatoes an onion and some spices. A great quick lunch that will keep ya goin till the evening hunt is over.

As far as canned meals go, that one is a winner for me.
 
Do you buy canned potatoes or make them? What's the difference between the canned and raw potatoes?

i might as well contribute to...

I love corned beef hash. usually i make a big pot at least once a season. if you want somehting different, make a grilled cheese stuffed with corned beef hash.
 
Canned potatoes are a delicious addition to fried corned beef or Spam or Klik etc...
Slice potatoes add an onion, S&P, a dash of curry, paprika & garlic powder. Add can of cubed spam or CB and voila!!! Good bush food eat'n.
