Any of you guys remember Intl Firearms of Montreal sold them for back in the late 80's??

$199 or $299?
 
Considering people are now greedy enough to ask a grand for a nice LB out of the wrap, maybe he should be asking in the neighborhood of $2000. Enfield prices have gotten ####ing ridiculous.

It was probably closer to $199.

I can remember seeing a wrapped Faz for about that much in the early 90's and thought it was too much money.

I'm kicking myself now.
 
Like many here, I sort of grew up with Enfield's - certainly it was the first centre-fire rifle I shot back in the 1970's in cadets - and find the idea of a $700 - $1000 Enfield to be, at first blush, crazy but, when the heart rate slows, I suppose I can understand. When one looks at M1 Garands and such like, it is easier to put the Enfield's in context. They ain't making any more and they are pieces of history. The ones I have certainly cost a lot less but that was then and this is now. For a new rifle, is it so unreasonable for someone to ask a price comparable to a newly manufactured one ? Personally, I wouldn't buy a new in the wrap Enfield because I like to shoot things I own and doing so with a new in the wrap is sort of pointless so I just ordered an AIA. Now, $799 for an AIA - WTF - many of you probably think I'm nuts - I will advise after it arrives (and I've shot it) whether I am in agreement !!

The "Irish" guns are not that great either. They were usually made up with very late war lumber that was not properly kiln dried. This causes the fore end to warp as it dries and causes all kinds of accuracy problems.

Close, in 1992 - 93 ish, LeBaron had them for $239.99 ea, Single rifles and consecutive serial numbers. They had some many rifles with consecutive serial numbers, you could get them in numbers as high a 6.

Well, they were for Ireland, after all....:) I have one of the ones that pre dates the Irish contract, it has the navy proof on the barrel. It was wrapped, but it had seen service. Never had any issues with the wood. PF3091XX
 
Jeez you guys, I asked about the value of Irish LE's before I listed it and it seemed the going rate was $4-600. Out of the wrap. So is $600 OBO out of line or what?

No it's reasonable if it's next to new condition. You did leave it open to offers. I don't think any comments are directed at you.

The value of wrapped Enfields is substantially higher because it adds significantly to their collector value. P&S sold an Irish Contract rifle not long ago for around $600 or $650 that had been degreased and fired and they come up from time to time on the EE for around $400-$600 but they have popped up for $700-$900. At those prices, however, degreased fired examples do not seem to sell. In my opinion $600 is fair for a rifle that has been degreased and fired.
