Hi, I,m working on a bit of a project with one of my milsurp walnut stocks and was wondering if someone could provide some nice pics of there walnut stocks so I can have something of reference.

If you could also provide what method if any you used to get the stock to that particular look it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

Tung Oil

PM me for a contact that may be willing to explain how to achieve these results.

Are you interested purely in restored milsurp walnut?

Yes and no, wouldn't mind seeing both. I want the stock to look original but I also want to be able to take advantage of the awesome grain in walnut.

The stock is in the white right now. Its been stripped, and looks pretty clean.

I cant decide whether or not to stain it or just go directly to a BLO/Turpentine/Beeswax or Tung Oil finish.

Most of my experience is working with really beaten up stocks that I usually stain a bit beforehand to hide the dings this is a pretty decent stock and am having a hell of a time deciding whether to stain or go hardcore milsurp.

So it depends on how both methods look, so if you guys have some pics of stained walnut and some have just BLO I'd appreciate it.

I,m leaning towards just mixing some BLO with turpentine and going at it with that adding more BLO as it goes. Then maybe a final finish with TUNG oil.

But man some of those nice dark stains sure would look nice on a piece of walnut like this. :kickInTheNuts:

Its killing me :D

Here's mine with a polyurethane finish on a GI walnut stock. Probably 10 coats of poly, then I used automotive finishing compound to give it a high gloss.

Came out much nicer than the picture suggests. Next time I go to the range I'll get you a pic in the sun.

I have a walnut handguard too.

This looks interesting (I appreciate fine wood)! Please provide a better image, and please reduce your image size.

Ok, I finally got around to finishing the stock. I took into thought every ones contributions so I decided to basically do all of it.

I cleaned the stock, then used a stain, BLO Turp mix.

I rubbed it into the stock like a madman.

Once it all dried I then put on about 4 coats of tung oil. It was a bit shiny at first so I took some steel wool and brought it down a bit.

So now I have a pretty tough finish but that still have a bit of milsurp look to it.

Curious what you think

Very nice! I like it. You can't go wrong with Tung oil.

Now finish it with a walnut hand guard. Then, you will have a master piece!

What's with the grenades?
