Mag capacity

"...never understand the 3 shot limit for shotguns..." Migratory Bird Act. Our name for an International Treaty between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. The theory being that if you can't hit the bird with three shots, you won't with 4 either. A missed bird will be out of lethal range by th etime you've fired 4 shots anyway. Even with a semi-auto.
Ontario does say 3 rounds in the shotgun for any hunting.
Only the Lee-Enfield and M1 Rifle are specifically exempt from the silly mag capacity rule. Any mag for any other centrefire rifle, larger than 5 rounds, is a prohibited device.

This law disagrees with you

Q. What is the maximum number of cartridges that a firearm magazine can legally hold?
As set out in Criminal Code Regulations, some large-capacity magazines are prohibited regardless of the class of firearm to which the magazines are attached. As a general rule, the maximum magazine capacity is:

5 cartridges for most magazines designed for a semi-automatic centre-fire long gun; or 10 cartridges for most handgun magazines
A large-capacity magazine is not prohibited if it has been permanently altered so that it cannot hold more than the number of cartridges allowed by law. Acceptable ways to alter a magazine are set out in the regulations.

There is no limit to the magazine capacity for semi-automatic rim-fire long guns, or for other long guns that are not semi-automatics.

Thousands of Ontario hunters hit the woods every year, many with their Lee Enfields in tow. I've never seen one mag pinned, and most are full to the max.
There is no such ruling, Federally, or Provincially, for these rifles in this province.
I've hunted with them myself, Happy hunting

Shotguns are limited provincially in Ontario, to 3 rounds, for ALL hunting, including waterfowl, upland, and big game etc.

Not to mention some Win 94s which can hold 7 in the mag.

Which is why you tell the conservation officer that your fully loaded shotgun is for bear defence, not for hunting.

The only problem is both CO's that we talked to said you are _always_ hunting if you have a gun in the bush in Ontario, so you will be charged. Thus, 3-shot limit applies. Also, if you target shoot you must be at a firing range.

Also, they said you are not allowed to carry any gun for bear defense in Ontario, because if a bear attacks you it was because you were illegally provoking it, thus you will be charged for that as well.

Also, they said no one would be able to use a gun against a bear anyway, because a bear attacks too quickly for a -hunter- to react. (they admitted they carry modified 8-shot shotguns for bear defence)

Lastly, one of the two CO's said all guns in Canada should be single shot only, because if you ever need more than one shot to down any animal, you should turn in all of your guns.

Those COs are idiots if thats what they said.

my marlin cb holds 9 45/70,s and that co that talked about using only a single shot is unethical as sometimes animals dont go down with one shot.maybe take away his firearm and let him go walking in the bush .thats not all co's most are pretty good and well informed .
