I actually don't mind the look of it being that far back, but I would suggest that if you like less eye relief that you flip the rear base around because your rings are close to each other. If you knock your scope or something, greater torque will be exerted and you would cause more damage than if the rings were farther apart. Since you haven't shot it yet, I'd flip the rear base ASAP so you don't have to redo the sight-in.
Nice rifle, but if it were mine, I'd not have used extension bases. There's lots of room on that scope to use a standard front and rear base to spread the rings better along to scope tube. Should make it stiffer and more stable.
And yes, 2 piece bases look SOOOO much better.
