Looking for a hunting rifle with Picatinny rail

A newbie question: does anyone know of high precision rifle I could use for hunting, that would have a Picatinny rail section under the barrel ? My goal would to place a laser under the barrel, and a scope on top. I have seen rifles with a rail on top, by a laser would block the view for the scope. I have also seen rails on the side, but then the laser would only point the right spot at a certain distance (whereas if it is under the barrel, you can visually compensate for bullet drop).

My preference is 30-06spr, could go .308win.

Ive been wanting a similar setup. Quite often while hunting I would like to be able to use a laser to help me aim

Low light close range?
Tactical guys use it for low light CQB stuff on the most dangerous of game.....I'm sure it works, but have never tried it.

After Bartels bear incident is probably nervous at night.:p

FWIW I like the picatinny rails/rings and Nightforce scopes on my LRT rifles so much I thought I would try them on my hunting rifles this year...I went with aluminum bases/rings and a 2.5-10X24 NF....Also have a 2.5-10X32 on its way.

You could probably attach to the picatinny rail or buy a rail with side mounted Aux rails.....Saw one in the EE somewhere.
 
You can get scope rings with Picatinny rail on the top. That would be a better idea than hanging something from your barrel. Dead giveaway of a rank amateur.
 
I haven't done so yet, but I plan on doing the same thing and have an idea how. I'd like to mount a weaver base to the underside of the forestock just ahead of the swivel. Since the stock tapers up, it will require a tapered contoured shim to align it with the barrel.
An excellent place to mount a bipod or a laser/tactical light cluster for retrieving garbage cans from the bears in the middle of the night.:)

these pics show flashlites , but the mount would work for a laser or combo light/laser. fwiw i would opt for a bottom mount as it keeps it out of ur field of view.:D

The top one is where your hand goes when you shoot?

what, no smart*ss comments today? ru not feeling well?:p

it might be in the way for some but i can hold it comfortably without nearing the mount's location. it does however force u to take the sling off, or mount it behind the light. i wouldn't do it anyways cause it's illegal to hunt big game with light and laser in ontario... ru guys actually allowed to use lights/lasers in the provinces u live?

huh??:confused: I know night hunting is illegal except for raccoon at night with a special license. but i wasn't aware of a restriction on laser use or even lights in the legal game shooting period (1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset). is there a specific regulation?

red dot scopes are ok, but if it projects a beam it is prohibited. it was recently reaffirmed when i took the turkey course a month ago, someone had asked specifically. another one people don't seem to realize is that electronic game calls are illegal to use for hunting as well... the instructor said that they r used for people to use as reference to their own calling when practising. :bsFlag:

p.s. only going by what i was told by mnr instructors

the other thing is, imagine popping ur head out of the bush after legal light has ended... and u have a laser, or light on ur firearm... try to picture urself explaining that u r not a poacher to the yogie

1st--------- correct...no projected light-illegal
2nd---------sometimes correct...electronic calls are only illegal for Migratory birds...OK for predators, deer, etc.

i have been told twice on two separate occaisions by two different mnr instructors that they cannot be used, do u have a link?
as for migratory birds that reminds me of the other one they talked about which were decoys which are battery operated also being prohibited

Depends what province you're hunting in. Check with the local fish cops to find out.
