I cut the grip off and reshaped it to make it more like and old English style shotgun, hoping it make it a bit quicker shouldering for snap shooting rabbit etc. Does it help? I think so, but it may just be in my head. It was fun to do though.

Ruger 10/22 an autoloading rimfire rifle made popular due to the fact that there are a billion aftermarket parts for it.
My Cooey
I finally got around to taking (poor quality) pictures of my Cooey. It is a Model 78 I bought from a local gun shop - now long gone - quite a few years ago. I have taken my share of grouse and pop tins.
I have never really gotten serious about shooting until now. It isn't "origninal" as far as I can tell. It has been refinished and the rear target sight has been removed. I don't know what brand of ammunition it likes as I have never really thought much about it. I plan to spend a while with some different stuff this summer.

Anybody use the fake supressors from fab sports on their 10/22? They look pretty sweet on the site haha. Also anyone know if the diameter of a savage mark II Heavy Barrel is the same as the Ruger 10/22 Heavy Barrel? I believe I read somwhere that the 10/22 was .920

My great Uncles 82 Cooey looks identical with that milled slot, it has a simple filler with one screw in it. Kinda tempting to put a sight on there isn't it!

i had big plans for my ruger 10/22. After putting a 4-12 scope, vq extractor, vq hammer, auto bolt release, bolt buffer, and rimfire tech trigger, I think that i will leave it as is for a while. It shoots great and is a blast to play with. Oh yea, the bc steel lips and speed loaders are a must!

Noel: GrantR - from this forum and others - has indicated that the official Cooey book states that the model 82 was based on the model 78.
Yes, that rear slot is for a target sight - been looking off and on for one for a while. I also saw on another forum (can't remember which one right now) where someone took a model 82 - again, same set-up as the 78 - and mounted some generic scope mounts into the sight screw holes and mounted a scope.
I don't know if it is really worth it - shooting off a bench I seem to remember hitting cans at 50m with the iron sights. But since it has such a long, heavy barrel, why not go above and beyond "plinking".

Don't ask me how I did it but many moons ago I took a chunk of flat bar and turned into a long scope base rail that went into the dovetail for the leaf sight, and all the way back to make use of the milled flat portion. It was done with a couple files, a hacksaw for the grooves and a few hours of determination.

The lighting for indoor photos sure frustrates me!
Here is the Stevens 26 Crackshot my father in law just gave me. It has been in his family for a long time but he is not certain just how long. It wears the SVG roll mark so age is 1920 or later. Note the eccentric chamber. Bore is very good and awaits it's first gopher patch.

Geez, I guess its back to the gun safe with the camera - my other 22 is a Crackshot 26! It was my great uncles. It doesn't have the "SVG" stamp so it must be earlier. The funny thing is, I learned to shoot on a Crackshot 26 - my buddy's grandmother won it as a prize at the local fall fair in 1919. It's shot many a grouse. His father would carry it to school in hopes of a bird or bunny!
His barrel, while having little or no rifling is pristine on the outside; mine has lots of rifling (for a 90 year old rifle) but the outside is rough. His is also several inches shorter than mine - funny.
I will try for pics.
