Another Glock vs M&P thread!!

Hey Guys,

I tried doing some searching but I didn't find anything. If I was looking at an Glock 17/22 or a M&P 9/40 which would you recommend and why?

I also plan to reload if that affects your anser in any way.

The Help will be much appreciated.
 
9MM because it is cheaper to shoot.

Glock 17 or M&P 9MM whichever fits your hand best and the one you feel more comfortable with.

Pick one and go shoot.

I have shot glock in the past but the M&P nine i just bought fits me better. I am shootin tonite! I bought 9mm just cause its cheaper for ammo but the 40 makes a nicer bang! I only have 20 rounds through so far but the fit and finish of the M&P is nice. I like them both though. If you want to accessorize buy a glock cause they are time proven and there are TONS of accessories for them. Its a matter of preference really. I can see a G21 in my future!;)
 
I looked at the Glock 17 before I bought my new M&P. I liked it but went with the M&P because the Glocks apparently do not like lead bullets.

This is an issue for me because the most reasonably priced bullets I can find are lead so these are what I reload. I couldn't see buying a Glock and then having to pay another $200 for a barrel so I could shoot lead.

Glock. It has been around, issues/advantages well known. No brainer.
M&P still new. Good product, but with the Glock, time has told... 5 years Ill get an M&P

You can shoot lead out of a factory Glock barrel. Watch the fouling and clean it.

Well that is your opinion. I have discussed this issues with others, who I respect, who disagreee.

My understanding is that Glocks tend to foul very quickly when shooting lead bullets. At this time I do not have the funds to take the chance of buying a piece that will not do what I want.

I now have 2 M&P's9's. One I have had for a year with 5K plus down the pipe and the other with about 300. Very happy with both.

I have put 2K+ down the first gun without cleaning it. Just past 2K it started to have problems extracting. A quick 10 min clean and it was back in business. That is good enough for me.

When I happen to have more disposable funds I MAY buy a Glock and try it for myself. Til then I will go with the advice I have been given and stick with my M&P.

I got the M&P because I shoot lefty and it has more ambidextrous features. I find it tough to activate a slide release on the left side of a gun with my left hand.
 
Glock.

There is no contest here.

Try to find a Glock and an M&P that have both had over 5-10K rounds through them. Notice that the M&P looks tired, and worn, whereas the Glock looks virtually brand new, and still shoots better.

That is the opinion of a colleague who has shot well over 90,000 rounds of lead reloads through his Glock without a failure. Unless you shot that first 2k in a single range session, your maintenance schedule is flawed.

As for the ambi controls and the "I can't reach the slide LOCK with my left hand" You aren't supposed to be using the slide LOCK to release the slide... Nevermind, sound pistol tactics are wasted on those who dabble in the shooting arena.

I don't like magazine disconnector 'safeties' and I don't like integral lock 'safeties'.

Most Glocks have neither of these so-called 'safety features' and get along just fine without them. While Smith & Wesson is making and selling the M&P both with and without them, depending upon customer preference, and while only about 30% of customers choose these extra devices - about 70% of the M&P pistols are sold without these 'safety features' - most of the M&P pistols found in Canada have both of them.

Both the M&P - without the extra stuff - and the Glock are good choices. A choice between the Glock and an so-called 'safetied' M&P - with extra stuff (I didn't want) - on the other hand, would be simple.

I have seen you posting on a lot of threads and have grown to believe you are nothing but a trouble maker and as such I put no stock in anything you post.

More research and testing went into the Glock. And it has been used by dozens of armed forces since the 1980s.

Hilarious.

It doesn't fit nicely in my hand is usually a comment of someone who hasn't held many firearms. You never really hear carpenters complaining about the skilsaw or hammer grip...


And people sure get touchy when someone challenges their opinions on things here sometimes. LOL. I appreciate a well thought out post, contrary or supportive of my opinions.

So much nicer than "Liberal Troll".... blah blah... I respect people's right to tell TDC to go away, but we would all be better served by you replying to his opinion on your maintenance rather than telling him to go away. LOL

PS- Shooting lead my be cheap... But you are breathing more of it... So perhaps more costly in the long run medically...

Lead poisoning affects ability to reason....
