What's the general consensus on 9mm 1911's? Are they generally as reliable as their big bore brothers? I hear they are generally pussy cats to shoot. I know they have to use a much lighter recoil spring. But what other differences or issues should one be aware of before they make a purchase?

Lets not have this degrade into a 9mm vs 45 ACP debate. That horse has been beaten to death.:D

They are fun to shoot, light recoil, pretty accurate. I swapped in a .38super barrel in mine.....that's even more fun:)
Only difference in the frame from a .45 is the slide stop and ejector. On the slide, the barrel, extractor, and firing pin are different, nork bushing is smaller diameter as well.

From a mechanical point of view absolutly nothing I have heard of and the ones I have shot seem fine. Frankly though there are so many platforms in 9mm, I don't feel the need to get a 9mm version in 1911. I like the .45acp in the 1911, now if i was to carry a mini-1911 then i would go to 9mm as the .45acp does not reliably expand from the low M/V caused by the short barrel. Frankly if you want a 1911 and don't want to be on your hands and knees chasing brass, get one in .40cal

1911 in 9mm

I've got a Colt Combat Commander and a Norc NP-29 in 9mm. Very nice to shoot.

I've had some lemons that had reliability issues. Most can be worked out. This last one is great, and even feeds hollowpoints perfectly. The trigger is so light I have a feeling someone has worked on the gun.
Yes the recoil is negligible. I had a Fusion barrel fitted and it's alittle heavier so a pleasure to shoot.

Browning design, simple, works, 9mm is cheaper than .45.... its all good shooting. 1911 to 2009 and still in action (somewhere) must be a reliable design eh? :)

I've owned and shot them extensively over the past 10 years. Don't buy ONE ! Buy TWO of them because that 9mm inside a 1911 platform is a super sweet combination.

In closing I can sum up by saying, "Heeeeere kitty kitty kitty kitty"

Plink knows what I'm talking about. He's got my latest 9mm 1911 single stack right now. ;)
