M14

Depends on what your thoughts are and what you are looking for.

In some respects, the Norc beats the Springfield in terms of affordability and reliability. Usually by a factor of about 2x? (@$500 for a Norc and $1000+ for a SA M1A)

On the other hand...

Norc QC has been in question (as it always is) but Springfield lately has taken fire for using cast components.

Either or, I think the Norc is a fantastic rifle as is the SA, but Norc needs a little work to get them where you want to be.

With the work put into a new Norc, you will still be under the price point of a new SA M1A. Food for thought :)

Where can you find a SA M1A for anywhere near $1000? I'm pretty sure you mean $2000+

I remember seeing a used one for that price.

Fairly certain P&D has one on their wall for $1200 (not the SOCOM 16 listed on their website) atleast two weeks ago when I was in there. Strangely enough, they still list my Swiss Arms for sale and it's been sold awhile ago.

Eh, last few used SOCOM 16s I saw were fetching $1700 or so. LAst I heard new commanded well into the $2000 range

Don't waste your money on a SOCOM 16, you can get the same results with a Chopped Norc, USGI stock and rail of your choice for about half the price and you can still take it hunting.

To answer your original question, I believe Marstar "was" the importer of the Norinco M305 (M14 clone). I say "was", because there won't be anymore brought in. (no longer in production). If its a Norc you seek, then the Equipement Exchange will be your friend.

If you can afford it, Wild West Shooting Center in Edmt has a new SOCOM on the shelf.

IMHO: look for & buy a used or NIB Norinco. Good value for the $. Lots of aftermarket parts available ( see my Avitar pic ). Lots of Norinco Jedi Masters on CGN to provide info on your rifle.

Zeb.

Can't say for sure but Norinco has apparently fired up the M305 production line again. Who is going to get them I also can't say but the buzz is that Bell was trying to buy a few thousand.

Witht he US market still closed to Chinese firearms, I'd take your information with about twice the entire universe's supply of salt ... ;)

IF the Canadian (or European) market could be reasonably believed to be able to bear another 15K (reported minimumn order for Norinco to even consider starting up production again) rifles of that model, Johnone would have signed that contract by now, and AFAIK, he declined to do so.

Bell may be negotiating, but I doubt such negotiations would go anywhere.
