Russian SKS45 long thread.

I have a green light for rifle (have money for a while..... finally)... provided my wife don't find out. I'm kinda lost on track. Who sells them right now? I'm looking for unissued one (I probably wouldn't even shoot it, just for collection).

PS. I have chinese SKS which I will shoot until the barrel fells off.

Looks like Moving Target is going to get more. I have already sent in my email. They are the best ones to come out so far. Ed really picked some nice ones.
At least I can give my Visa a short rest until they arrive.

Saw some pics of SKS`s of buyers from Moving T and do they look awesome. That withstanding, although Lever`s inventory are a mix of good and bad, there are enough nice ones to be had. Wouldn`t recommend ordering by mail or phone as its best to inspect first hand. Just picked up my 2nd refurbed SKS with an almost perfect lamin stock, chrome bolt, minor rail wear, healthy rifling, smooth action, matching numbers. My girls look good but do they perform? Will find out this weekend at the range. My future mod would be some trigger lightening work.
I too, blame Curtton and his numerous articles for this latest virus, the SKS flu. Unlike the Swine flu, this one has no antidote - thank god for that!

Sighting my refurb

Went to the range Friday May 1. Results of my '52 SKS at 100 yds., benched w/ open sights. Ammo - Czech surplus.
The first five rounds did not hit the target board, much less any of the 4 paper targets stapled side-by-side.(didn't have any rifle target paper). Frustrated, had my friend shoot while I spotted. After another 10 rounds it was clear the gun was shooting high. My shooter friends are SKS nuts and we proceeded to make adjustments.

After starting to hit the board was finally able to get the 1st paper target.

Results after the final adjustment

Fun time - 25 yds. 5 rounds rapid fire In standing position

Shooter friend was sighting his '56 and grouped better. In my case, it was a lot of work with satisfying results!
This post is originally in another thread. Wanted to share my recent experience with all SKS owners. The Russian refurbs are going to further please us at the range. Time to do the '53 next week and after that, maybe buy the 3rd???:runaway:

Nice shooting. Did you use a SKS sight tool to make the adjustments?
Shooter friends get the credit for my improved groupings. SKS's are my first foray into Milsurps. Thanks to info available on CGN, definitely started on the right foot. Built like a tank with a solid action.
One of the guys had an SKS sight tool which proved invaluable. A necessity if instant adjustment at the range is desired.

My Rant about buying from Lever Arms!

With all this talk about getting SKS's. I said to my self I should take a little ride down to lever arms and buy one. On the advise of Cuttorn I went in seen a guy named Jermy and told him that I have no clue about these rifles but I wold like to purchase one. To my supprise he just states that "They are a cheap sks and if you want one go find one you like." I was like "O.K." and went ohing and awwing over about 100 rifles tell I seen one I might like to see. So I walked back down to there till and said "I think I see a winner." So we walk back up and he pulls it out of the case and hands it to me. Well the way it was placed in the cabinet you couldn't tell that on the back side right were the barrel meets the stalk that it seem's that the stock was cut and glued back together. So I said "I don't want one with a stock that looks like that." to his reply " You are talking about Russian quality control, there all like this." I shook my head in disbelief and started looking for another one seen a nice Tula 1945 and this baby was spanking great extior condition. I looked at him and said "Wait a sec. Don't run off just yet, I want that one." So he walks back up and with a jess sound that comes out of his mouth, he opens another cabinet opens the chamber and hands me the rifle. I look it over and from everything thats been said on this fourm it seems like a keeper. I ask Jermy "So is this a new rifle or what?" he quickly replies "No they have all been refurbished and checked over before shipping to us." I then try holding it up to the light to exam the bore but the lighting in there is the pits so I try to walk closer to the light and he starts flipping out so I ask him for a bore light, "NO" can I walk over by the till with it and check it "NO". So I at this point I didn't care any more and told him to wrap it up. He then hands it over to this Asian guy who put's on a glove and start's wrapping it up. I say "I am so excited this is going to be my first firearm purchase from your company. I have buaght stuff from almost every company across Canada except for you guys." He grin's and smiles. So then I ask him what with the glove he then tells me that these were packed in grease and you need to clean it before firing it and that you should also check the net for cool little tricks on how to clean it properly after firing the corrosive ammo through it. I was like "Thanx for the tip you plan on getting anymore non-corrosive ammo from norinco?" Well all of a sudden Jermy snaps over "No, not until all this check stuff is sold, then we will see if we can get some. Oh and by the way the CFC says that there is a problem transferring the firearm into your name. So here is the number and once they aprove it get them to fax it to us at this number." Then turns around takes my credit card from my hand and rings through the sale. I was so puzzled  I have buaght normerous restricted weapons and never had to done any paper work when buying from a company and this is a non-restricted and I have to do paper work??? The Asian guy looks at me with a puzzled face and hands me a baggy with all the extra goodies. So I phone the number and it's the east coast CFC number. the totally wrong one then they give me the right number to phone. So when I calling this number I look at the Asian guy(sorry he never told me his name but was really helpful) and told him my cell phone battery was dying, so he placed there phone on the counter. Thats when Jermy comes out of no were takes the phone and stands infront of me with a confertaional pose. So me instead of confronting him I tell him that the CFC say's that the serial number is registered to too many people and that they can't aprove it until they get a verifier to come down and add extra numbers to it. He looks at me with a mad face and states "That the government for ya." Well I was in shock. I thought to my self what type of company is this? What am I getting myself into? All of a sudden the big red button with the words ABORT apear in my head. I tell him "I want to cancel this!". He laugh's at me and says "Nope! To late it's already in your name. This stuff happens all the time. Call us once they get a hold of you." I wanted at this point to reach over and well you get the point but I don't I grab the bag of goodies and state to these guy's looking at some SKS's in the cabinet "Good luck in trying to get through's registered in your name. I hope in my truck and can't belive what just happened to me. I can't accept this out come. I call the CFC again and get another lady and tell her "I just had the worst customer service ever and this transaction frankly is really worrying me is there any way to cancel this transfer?" She states no problem I will withdraw your application for transfer. I said to her that the man in the store told me that this could not be done. She replied that they have been having some trouble with this company and that a review will be takening place soon. I told her if she needed any info to feel free and contact me and thank-you. No less the 2 minutes later I get a phone call from Lever Arms and the Asian guy asks me to come back so he can issue me a refund. I walk in with a big grin on my face and hand him my credit card and say to Jermy "I thought that I couldn't cancel it?" He sarcastically replies "You withdrew it and any way this stuff happens all the time." I quickly respond "Well I guess there is a reason why I only shop at Italian and Reliable and never here." before I can even finish my statement he cuts me off "Well good for you. I glad." I laugh in his face and say "I normally say have a nice day but in this case you can go f^@k yourself." I turn around and there is a cop there looking at me. I tell him also "Good luck in getting that SKS cause it seem like some one is under investigation" and walk out the door never ever to return. From now on I think I will stick to reputable dealer's from this website. Although I have heard a lot of good stuff from people that have bought from Lever I am one that tried but will never ever support that high level of customer service again.

I geuss you know what is was talking about hey Curtton. But I don't think I will ever go back there again. I think I might just get one from Epp's or moving target when they get more in.

Yeah my experience was similar. Very poor customer service. If it's such a big hassle for these guys to sell the SKS's, why did they bring them in? I guess they expect a soup nazi like sales.

Customer: "Can I get some service?"
Lever: "No SKS for you!"

Glad I am patient and am waiting for Ed from Moving Target to get more in.

It sounds like Lever rates right up there with SIR. It sucks that some firearm dealers screw people over and then get investigated. Both Lever and SIR/Cabella's need attitude adjustments.

Oh so true!!!

Yeah my experience was similar. Very poor customer service. ................. a soup nazi like sales.

Customer: "Can I get some service?"
Lever: "No SKS for you!"

Was at Lever's today and picked up my third (hopefully the final-wife thinks I have only two) SKS. The stock is a forced match but this time not a lamin. Couldn't resist the very tight action and healthy rifling. Bringing it home on Tuesday (CFC is closed for transfer) and hope this groups as well as it looks.
The "soup nazi" had a day off. Can't blame those who find the customer service leaves something to be desired. But others who may want to still make a purchase, just avoid him and talk with the other staff. The store was busy (1 1/2 hr. before we would open the glass to view our choices), but the staff coped in a helpful way.
Curtton, as for Mike, he could possibly be there on another day. If I'm not mistaken, Lever's is closed on Mondays.
Manic29, lets officially give that salesperson the name "soup nazi".

this sentence gave me the shivers.

can you imagine if i found a true unissued mint condition IZH else where and then i was told they have to stamp an extra letter or number on the receiver like they do with Bell . NOOOOOOOO !!!!

but thats quite a posiblity as more and more russian SKS arrives then more serials numbers gets duplicated.
