No, average joes aren't allowed to own firearms, legally.

We are a special class of Canucks with fewer rights than the average joe.

Yes, .50 cal rifle is legal in Canada. I have a .50 cal black powder muzzle loader. A fine sniper rifle back in the 1800's.

The US has destructive devices and permits for such. We just have really expensive long range non-restricted deer rifles.
