They can be REAL bad is south SK in the spring LOL.
I used to come back from dirtbike rides and literally pull a hundred of the little fuggers off me. I've become so desensitized to them that it doesn't even bother me anymore, but the first time my wife (then girlfriend lol) saw it, she nearly passed out, and wouldn't come near me for 3 days lol.
The worst place is any tall grass or bush or right around gopher holes. Gophers are magnets for them, and gopher shooting can lead to doing a lot of tick removal.
Definitely be vigilant about them and try to get them off ASAP, BEFORE they bite and get embedded. As said above, don't just pull them off, use vaseline, baby oil, deet, etc.. to get them to back out, you don't want the jaws left in there. Same goes for your dog/cat, if you leave the jaws in there, they'll end up with permanent bumps where the tick was removed.
Also, Lyme Disease is an ugly thing, it nearly killed my brother-in-law a few years ago. If you're in deer tick country, you have to be extra vigilant.
