Glock 21, SW M&P 45 or XD 45?

imbane, have you looked at/considered the Taurus 24/7 Pro?
I've heard very good things about this gun, but do not know anyone who own's one, let alone handled one.

24/7 is a great pistol for anyone/anywhere except anyone in Canada. I'm not kidding. There is ZERO customer service/repair for these pistols here. You buy it, you screw yourself.

In regards to the Glock 21. I have it and I love it. Mine is Olive Drab. I don't actually prefer it over the M&P45 comfort wise but it shoots SO nice for a .45 polymer pistol and it really feels like a substantial mans-man gun in your hand. Also, it has the incredible reliability of a Glock pistol, it's actually kind of cool to own a gun that casually remarks to other pistols "f**k off, please." None of my other guns or other guns I've fondled/shot ever did that. I don't what it is, the gun just has it's own personality. For f**k sakes, even people who have never shot the gun or know little about firearms are drawn to it when I show off my collection or go shooting.

For posterity, here is a very nice little pic of my G22 with my G21.

I dont know all that much about the huge realm of mods and variants for the 45, from custom Nighthawk to the simple glock, but I was surprised to find that when asked actually many of the famous "glock guys" don't recommend the Glock in 45. Greg Hamilton and Larry Vickers say for example they would shoot/carry a g19 or a highly customized custom 1911. But not the Glock (in) 45 AS A FIRST CHOICE IN 45.

Howe likes them IIRC.

If you want to shoot 45 get a "real 45" IMHO.

That said. Why are you choosing a gun around a cartridge rather than a "gun and cartridge" around a mission or goal?

Who cares what Greg Hamilton or Larry Vickers are going to carry? I'm not going to carry these firearms and frankly, if I was going to CCW something it wouldn't be the biggest f**king gun Glock makes.

In regards to the G21 not being a "real" Glock. Last time I checked it is very real, quite tangible. Hold on, I'll go check my safe to make sure it's still there.... Yep it is, unless I'm off my meds again I'm pretty sure the G21 is a real, tangible firearm and shoots like a dream.

LOL. Well if you carry about learning - from people who carry for a living, and teach people who carry for a living you should care. But that is up to you.

I don't recall the g19 being the biggest gun Glock makes. As a matter of fact, I thought it was the most "ammo for size" as well as being one of the most reliable and service tested pistols made.

I think you are confused here?

But thanks for showing how cool you are by not caring what experienced instructors say! You are awesome. Based on your CCW permits and teaching and combat experience what do you recommend?

LOL

Clearly you're too arrogant to take part in this conversation and you're confused. Go and read your post again you mention the Glock 45 not being their recommended carry choice. In which I responded I would not carry it either, it is the biggest gun Glock makes. Now, for reference there is no Glock model 45 so I assumed you were talking about the G21 chambered in .45 ACP? That is the subject matter we were discussing, not the sub-compact .45 ACP chambered Glock model 30 which indeed is an absolute brilliant choice for CCW. Furthermore, f**k Greg Hamilton and Larry Vickers. They can carry whatever they want. The fact that they didn't recommend carrying a Glock model 21 doesn't mean it's not a GREAT or REAL pistol. It's not a CCW pistol. It's a GREAT duty pistol and a fantastic shooter.

Now, as my Glock 21 would say, f**k off, please.

Tim.

"Who cares what Greg Hamilton or Larry Vickers are going to carry? I'm not going to carry these firearms and frankly," Well they were referring to the G19 instead of the Glock IN 45 calibre. As such, rather then assuming, I was going by your sentence structure. But I can chalk that up to a misunderstanding.

But "They can carry whatever they want. The fact that they didn't recommend carrying a Glock model 21 doesn't mean it's not a GREAT or REAL pistol. "

Well what does it mean then?

Adding Fbombs makes your argument so much better, really works well with saying "Who care about the guys who have fired millions of more rounds than me."

To the OP:

The reference was provided to show that some highly respected instructors, not newly hired constables, don't recommend polymer pistols in 45. Rather than taking anonymous info from unknowns on the net, that was provided to you as a good data set from experienced people. If you want to shoot .45, seriously rethink getting a 1911 frame. If price is an issue, get something you can build and upgrade later. I forgot to add/ask why are you only considering those pistols in 45. Any specific goal, training, or or just collecting/looks.

I say f*ck 45, its an over rated cartridge that fails to provide the "one shot stop" pedigree so many champion around here. Only hits count and smaller calibre pistols are easier to shoot, feed, and handle/carry. Like yyyyy posted earlier. Why the decision to go with 45??

I used to shoot and reload 45's, if I buy other caliber, I have to buy lots of reloading stuff for that caliber. so I think I'll stick to 45 for a while. I heard it's not comfortable to reload 9mm since the bullet is too small to hold in fingers, is it true?

I see where you're coming from, no need to invest in extra gear if you're already setup for 45. I don't reload, but I have used a buddies press to turn out some 9mm. I don't know if you talked to Shrek or the Jolly Green Giant but the projectiles aren't "too small to hold.."

I'd be really glad to see Shrek doing reloading on the big screen,LOL

It's not a .45 but i have owned a glock 22 (.40) and have recently bought a m&p in .40 and i love the m&p . Never owned a xd so can't comment on it. I loved the trigger on the M&P it felt very short and crisp. Just my two cents worth.

I reload for both 9mm and .45ACP and don't find one to be easirt to reload than another. .45 is generally more exensive to shoot and relaod (although I got some plated .45 bullets recently for just 6 cents a pop  ...paid 8 for 9mm!!!)

now between the three I'd pick the M&P45...or G21SF. If CZ97 was too large than full size G21 is not an option for you.

Loading pistol on a single stage press can be a pain, literally. I do 9mm, 38/357 and 44 on a rock chucker and its true, I get less cramping on my hands, loading the 44 than the others. I usually will load 100 at a time.

I "held" all three; an XD45 (5" barrel), the M&P (nice feel) and then, well, I bought a Glock 21SF. There is nothing like the solid brick feel of a Glock. I was looking for a .45 and considered all three models.

It's more difficult to find a good holster for the picatinny rail version but after I bought a Comptac Paddle holster it didn't matter. Really nice draw. Fast and smooth.

If you are running a chest rig, a universal holster will do fine.

This is a great secondary sidearm. I chose the Glock because it is widely sold, tested and adopted from LE to Mil, parts and accessories are everywhere "in Canada" and generally, for the price it is a fantastic choice.

Price really wasn't on my priority list though. If Glock was $500 more expensive, I would have bought it anyway.
