Type 97 Classification Issues - PART TWO

Writing our MPs is so important!!!

Writing our MPs is so important!!!

My MP contacted me this week for some more information after I wrote a simple, short hand-written letter of about 10 sentences. I asked if they were aware of this situation, and if not, I wrote them a very brief 3 sentence summary for them.

The MP had not heard of it and were very interested to follow up with me, and I directed them and CanAm to contact each other as I couldn't answer the detailed questions.

We need more of us to alert our MPs to these actions of the CBSA/RCMP/CFC!

Our MPs need to be aware of what is going on.

Remember, no stamp is needed to write an MP, and don't forget to copy the PM and Minster van Loan with your letter!

PS - I am another chris, and not CanAm's Chris :)

You gotta wonder why certain folks are such perpetual haters though ... what's up Savage?

Haters get real ,Just being realistic I know the CBSA is not going to back away from this they will use every legal means at there disposal to win this case. If in the off chance the CBSA lose's the RCMP will simply start court proceeding and start this process all over again .
I have posted all the information I know that is true .The T97's Lever Arms imported were never properly inspected by the RCMP firearms lab in Ottawa they were inspected by a RCMP member in Vancouver who is not a Trained Firearms Technician there was only some notes and photos sent to RCMP in Ottawa .These firearms are exactly identical to the 12.2 firearms that were imported for the movie industry made at the same plant less the Full Auto trigger group as for Cam Am's guns they too were made at the same plant if the receivers were not modified then there is a big problem. Seeing as no one is saying other wise this is were we are at .

I've been watching your posts for some time Savage.

There is an edge to them which exceeds fact at times and strikes me as downright negative. I understand what you are pointing out here, its just that my friends are different than yours I think.

We'll see ...

Well good for you ,Now I can safely sleep at night knowing you watching my posts LOL

Negative really do tell ????????

Some of my friends do travel in the same crowd as you do

Savage has most of his facts wrong in the post above, certainly with regard to the legal process.

There is only one way the CBSA can prevent importation, and that is by the RCMP re-classifying. If the RCMP reclassifies, then it can be challenged. Hasselwander is the case where the test is. The likelihood of success depends on the technical reports from the RCMP.

Sorry Michael - but AFAIK these two statements are incorrect.

The T97 is not banned(prohib)....yet.

It's "legal classification is under review". They are not allowing transfers at this time. They have removed a FRT # (or #'s) from the system but there are still FRT's #'s for the T97 in they system....which ones I'm not sure.

The CBSA sent samples of CanAm's shipment of T97'S to the RCMP for review. The RCMP made their ruling regarding the classification of the T97 (what that ruling is can only be guessed at, but if I were a betting man I would double down that it wasn't positive). It is now up to the CBSA to make a decision: release the rifles, or reject them based on the RCMP'S ruling. See my previous posts for more of what I was told by the head CFC tech.

In my opinion the RCMP is downloading their responsibility to CBSA. If this shipment of T97's isn't allowed into the country they have less of a problem, and they only have to deal with the small amount of rifles previously imported. IMO, because there are so few in country, they would just keep things status quo.

IF CanAm's shipment of rifles are released they have a huge problem and a lot of egg on their face....they are hoping the CBSA rejects them and this just goes away.

Doesn't matter. CanAm law suit will be against Crown, not individual department.

Obviously CBSA recognized RCMP's "reviewing" trick. So far, as you have pointed out, CBSA refused to make decision. Now we have two departments in full action of "reviewing".

Don't forget the fact that CanAm, as a dealer, can import prohibited firearms!

What the hell are they waiting for?

I think it would be better to discuss technical aspects in pm. Big brother is watching.

They can get it regardless, so we might as well all be in the "know".

Interesting post Savage. I haven't seen the guts of the 12.2 T-97 versus one of these semi's, but about the only thing that's crystal clear in the Firearms Act is that using a FA receiver to make a SA is a big no-no, regardless of the contents.

Guys, we're all in this TOGETHER! No more in-fighting, it does nothing other than divide us, which is EXACTLY what Wendy and her minions in all levels of the government strive to do!

Yup, well said fire.

Im starting to get grumpy in waiting for my T97 which has caused me to think about it all day and night like a pubescent kid staring at a poster of Farrah Fawcett.
I have the ' need a new gun shakes ' and want my gun now. But I shall take out my anger by writing letters.

How about someone doing an access to information request on the ruling? Only $5.

If I were interested in one of these guns (and I'm not) I would do the request.

Motivational pics to keep up the good fight....

Those photos could be seen as a provocation. :D

Yeah - I actually resisted posting them, but at the end of the day, it's my rifle that I legally purchased, legally transported to an approved range and shot according to the range rules and the firearms act.

If someone has an issue with it they can bite me. The RCMP is doing nothing more here than making it harder for legal gun owners to own firearms. The BS with the Type 97 will in no way stop any gun related crime in Canada....None, Zero! They are spending their energy and valuable resources on exactly the wrong f@cking things and they are too blind to realize it.

What's worse is they are sending hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of revenue and job creation down the tubes during one of the worst recessions in history just to further some unknown purpose....there's a letter there somewhere I think:mad:
