I have heard over the years the Jungle-Carbine beats your shoulder up after a few rounds but Holy Snappers!!!:eek:
I never thought I was a p*ssy when it came to recoil as I frequently shoot light rifles in magnum calibers as well as a Marlin GG with hot loads with reasonable success.
Can anyone recommend a slip-on pad that would fit the #5 buttstock???
Maybe I should just put a few boxes of factory ammo through the #5 one after the other for whining about it in the first place :p
How do you guys get around the felt recoil of this beauty other than loading light?

I just got mine but I solve the problem by shooting lead. Great fun, inexpensve and it is remarkable how accurate the rifle is shooting cast.

Some of my stiffer cast loads though can get tiring quickly. I would look for a slip on shotgun pad. Should work.

I have a slip on recoil pad on my No.5. I can't remember the brand name. It's "Old something or other".

I like how you modified the pad. Seems like the sling loop would keep the pad from sliding off. What does a slip-on pad go for $ wise. Anyone else use the shoulder mounted pad that was mentioned?

I bought a Cooey 840 that came with that exact one (I think). Works ok I guess. I don't use them whenever I can get away with it. I don't notice recoil very much. I don't know the name of it but I could give you dimensions if you want. You might as well just bring your gun down to your nearest gun shop and see if they have something that fits.
 
I have shot a lot of guns including a 375 Weatherby wildcat and they don't compare to the sharp punch a #5 gives. My condolences !!! ;) Beautiful gun though. I have always been sorry I sold mine :(
 
I have gotten used to the recoil thank goodness! :eek: but starting out man was it an attention getter off the bench! :eek: :D

- A Past shield is good to have anyways.

- I was shooting mine for a while and was puzzled by the crappy groups I was getting, well duh, the kingscrew was loose lmao - does wonders for your groups if you keep it tight lol :D

the #5 is about the most unpleasant gun i have ever shot. right up there with a remington 1100 with heavy 3" loads (nothing like getting hit with recoil twice with every shot).

i used to have a 375 H&H and it was nice to shoot, as are some others that people complain about like the steyr M95 and mosin M38.
 
could always buy a shooting vest (padded shooting shoulder). then your gun wont look gehy with the slip on recoil pad.....
 
Find yourself a No4 butt stock and throw on a decent recoil pad.Works wonders and you can always put the No 5 butt stock on if you want to sell it off later.
 
A PAST shoulder pad is the way to go. Cheap and no ugly mods to your gun.

Yes the slip on pad is ugly. Its like putting pale rubber boots on a model.

Agreed about the Jungle Carbine...btw, I'll add the 8mm Mauser round with that nice steel buttplate on a Mauser rifle...yow.
