I am having skunk issues on my property and i plan to trap it then shoot it and eat it.

how do you clean these lil buggers without the stink bag goin off.

The contents of your 'stinkbag' actually make a very nice marinade. It's not high explosive, just empty the contents of the bladder into a small pot and boil it for about a half hour. Add a bit of lemon then soak the skunk meat in it overnight. Don't use the foward portion of the meat though, very springy. Just cook up the rear legs and rib meat.

The trip trap in my live trap is hooped or I'd have another one for you.

Buggers have been stealing all the bait.

Why not try jamming a cork in its stink hole to stop the spillage?
My wife has a whole box under the sink that work great for her.;)

I have killed a few skunks around the farm but they have always stunk right off the bat so i never bothered skinning them. I just assumed they would always stink to some degree.
It may likely be bad bullet placement on my part though rupturing the stink sack.

I want a skunk pelt hat!:)

I've skinned dozens of the little buggers and never punctured the sac. Just use a really sharp scalpel and go slow around the arse end of em.

I make the opening cut the same as on a coon (ankle to ankle behiind the ##### bone) to avoid the stink glands. And then dont yank to hard when pulling the tail...:D

I still havent been brave enough to use a syringe and extract the essence though.....maybe this year.

I saw a gal with a skunk purse once.

The tail was arched over the back for the handle!

Skunk hides are beautiful and durable.
Natives thought highly of the delicate white meat.

Careful skinning, handling, around the scent glands is important, but the out come isn't much worse than a mink's stink.:D
