So since i am a pretty big noob to AR variants what is the differences please. I am looking at both of these guns but need to make an educated decision and since these are not 200 dollar guns I like to be sure I am spending my money on the right one. PLEASE all opinions and info is needed!!!!!!!!!!!

Boils down to this:
One is Restricted
One is Non-Restricted

If you will only ever take it to the range, AR15 hands down.
If you wanna take it out... AR180B2.

Ya I figured that part but I am wanting to know about comparable quality. The only reason I am looking is so I can take it for coyote and varmit but if it isn't decent quality then it is a waste of money. I take very good care of my guns but taking care of a lump of SH*T is not what I want. I have heard about FTF issues and a couple others but I would like to hear about real life owners or other people in the know's opinions.

Yep, what he said. By time you finish upgrading your ar-180b you will have spent the same or more than a stock ar-15 but it still boils down to being able to take it out as non-restricted. I'm at 1800$ and counting on my 180b with quite a bit to go yet.

As for quality, i love the thing and in the words of another poster on the site" slaughters coyotes like a dam". Thats what I'm using mine for. Of course the ar-15 can't even be considered for this job.

The AR15 is tight and made from solid aluminium... the AR180B2 is polymer with steel plates embedded within; one is tight... the other a little loose, this doesn't affect function they are both nice.

The only reason the AR180B2 has sales in Canada though is the Non-Restricted status. I don't know how else to explain. If the AR15 was Non-Restricted, I'd have an AR15. :) Otherwise I've owned a couple 180B2's and been happy with them.

Many on the board 'dislike' the Ar 180 (variants) because they are not 'milspec' unless you are conducting 'advance to contact' drills ( Immediate action ) jumping out of a C17,C141,C130 attending the French Foreign Legion Jungle Warfare School or rolling out a 'VBL' In Djibouti Im sure the Ar180 and its myriad of 'faults' ( as per cgn ) will do just fine.....

PS....I was being sarcastic (thought I should reinforce the fact ), the rifles are excellent and as an added 'major bonus' they are 'unres/prohib' and they can be toted around anywhere a stevens 200 can:D

AR180b looks like a cheap plastic overpriced firearm.

Never got to abuse one though. AR triggers the same?

Restricted wasnt an option so i went with the 180B

its a tinkering mans gun for sure...it comes with a gritty and HEAVY trigger....cheap plastic furnature...and a pretty mickey mouse optics mount

all of which can be upgraded later on...outta the box mine shot about 3" groups with the sights and down to 2.5" with a scope

thats shooting the cheap stuff with the trigger at 9 lbs

i did a trigger job on it and plan to run some handloads through it shortly

no FTF's yet and its had about 400 rds through it

its not an AR15 and never will be....but its not a POS either...they take some work but they make a great option for a semi auto yote rifle

Yes it comes with an AR-15 standard trigger, creepy and heavy are standard. However you can polish the pins and engagement surfaces and change the spring for pretty cheap.

I had an AR-15 I liked it a lot. I sold it to buy an AR-180 B. Which I like as well. Gun for gun I would prefer an AR, but with our restrictions I much prefer the AR-180 B

Storage

AR unloaded In a vault, or in a gun cabinet with a trigger lock.

AR-180 B unloaded in a cabinet or with a trigger lock. Or loaded if it is used for predator protection

Transportation for an AR Need ATT to and from the range, by the most direct route, unloaded, trigger locked in a locked opaque case.gfor

Ar-180-B needs to be unloaded.

The AR-15 has more accessories than barbie.

The AR-180 options are more limited. Here`s mine

Accuracy of the AR-180b in my opinion is slightly inferior to a rack grade AR-15.

A typical 100 yard grouping for me with Iron sights

An AR-15 would be slightly better with irons.

9lbs??? Yuck. 2.5" @ 100 Yards?

yep....9 freakin pounds...and creepier than all hell...polished engagement points and changed springs...now its right at 5...but feels like 2#

and yes...thats a 100 yd group...before the trigger work with cheap UMC ammo...im happy with a semi auto with no mods and crap loads shooting 2.5"

I've had the same mental battle. I convinced myself to save a little longer and get a Swiss Arms. Buy a stripped AR lower to hold you over until there's enough cash for the SA's.

I believe that the manufacture of the AR-180B was discontinued by Armalite some months ago, so if you're interested in pursuing this option you will have to buy used.

180b shoots both .223 and 5.56(both civilian and military cartridges).....does the ar15?

about changing trigger pull weight , you guys are saying all I have to do is replace the springs? aka spring kit, not a trigger kit..?
