Here are some sample three shot group averages from our Osoyoos BC 2007 shoot at 1000m (1094 yds) along with the equipment used.
Sako Custom .284 Win. 9.52"
Tikka T3 Varmint factory 7mm R. Mag. 10.36"
Stolle Custom 6.5-284 14.81"
Savage 12BVSS factory .243 Win. 12.04"
Remington 700 Custom 30-338 18.30"
Sako TRG factory .308 Win. 11.66"
In 2008 the same shooter with the Tikka Varmint rifle fired a 3 shot group under 2". We have a second shooter in this area with another Tikka in 7mm Rem Mag who averages around 1 MOA at that distance. The groups listed above were the averages of at least 3 groups and some are averages of 10 to 12 different groups. Even light winds and mirage plays hell with group sizes at that distance. Winds during this shoot were gusting from 20 to 30 mph at times.
As you can see these factory Tikkas are hard to beat when fed good handloads pushing 180gr Bergers. If you shop around they are available for around $1,000 or less.
Regards
Aubrey
