Anyone Shot a 416 Ruger Yet?

If you want an excuse, well , here it is...

We all know that a standard pressure 45-70 will bounce off a bear, if it even has enough gas to reach the bear in the first place. A pump 12 is only one small step from a 5-pin bowling ball in terms of effectiveness in stopping an angered bruin. Without a 416 Ruger, the standard-length Prince of the 416s, you will die a grisly death the next time you go into the BC wilderness. Run, don't walk, to Prophet River's website and buy one of his.

lol where was that advice before I bought my 45/70 a few weeks ago :D

Jon Sundra wildcatted the .375 Ruger to .416 and had dies sent to him from Redding I believe. There was a write up in a gun rag I have at home, I will try to find it when I get home and find out who supplied him with dies for sure.

Saved his wallet too!

If I wanted a 416Booger (YUCK! :D) I would do just that then restock it with a McMillan. I think the Hogue is a POS.

My 416 Ultra Dies will come from Redding as well....Custom = Get your wallet out!

Boy there sure are a bunch of Hogue stock haters out there. I like the stock personally. I have 2. They are grippy and comfy to shoot. The wide forearm takes a bit of getting used to but I find it is nice to hang onto.

The hate for the Hogue comes from guys saying that because of the grippy surface it can hang up on your clothing, especially heavier fall jackets. This interferes with a proper mount which can, in circumstances like those described by Alaskan Guide Phil Shoemaker, get you killed. Ability to get a fast and clean mount is paramount when dealing with tooth'd, tusk'd or horn'd creatures that may try to kill you.

I hear that point. I tried several drills this past fall/early winter with my hunting stuff on and had no issues. I suppose that I loop the rifle into my shoulder, not drag it up my chest to my pit. Different strokes I suppose....

I think shorter guys might have more problems than taller guys. But then, us gangly buggers get smacked in the noise by our own thumbs under recoil too.

I'm sorry USP. Either stay out of the woods or will me your guns because being eaten is a near certainty!

lol I must PM you my purchases in advance next time. BTW as im in Ontario am I safe against Black Bears? :D

I dont want to get eaten :(
