Hello all,

Are here any people who wants to go for groundhog shoot around Montreal area in the nearest time (June - July) ?
Lets get together and have some fun :)

All what you may need is free time during weekend, small game licence, appropriate caliber of your rifle, willing to have some fun and scope..... of course scope, unless you ready to shoot without it ;)

Lets discuss it here ....

Could be interesting, but my rifles are either .22 rimfires or big game rifles (.30-06 and the like). I don't have any dedicated varmint rigs. I imagine you have access to land? Whereabouts in Mirabel?

I was doing some research and found that there are many farmers in Mirabel area who are OK to allow some groundhog shoot at their land. This weekend I am planing to get in touch with some of them and make sure that there will be some spot for it. ;)

I just see how good guys from other provinces getting together for gopher shoot and I want to try to make something similar here in QC or Ontario area.

By the way if you in Ontario and lets say not very far from Montreal (100 - 200 km) and you have some access to land ..... we might come to you ;)

Just interesting how much small game for non residents costs in Ontario ....

Anyway anyone who wants to get together for groundhog shoot around Montreal drop line here. Together we can make it !

I would definately be intrested. Wanted to hit up the one the boyz had out in Saskatchewan, but way too far a drive...

Do we have to have a small game license in Ontario to shoot gophers? Assuming we have land owners permission.
Ie.. i remember the guys in Saskatchewan saying they only need land owners permission & there guns :)

Ontario:
Non-resident’s small game licence tag...................$96.75
This licence is not valid in northern Ontario and part of central Ontario from June 16 to August 31, except for hunting by falconry and hunting game birds on a game bird hunting preserve

$96.75 for an Ontario non-resident small game licence. $84.50 in Quebec.
Mirabel looks kind of close to Montreal. Is it legal to shoot there? Find out before you go. I wouldn't count on it anywhere near an airport.
"...have to have a small game license in Ontario to shoot gophers..." Yep. No gophers in Ontario though.

Land around the airport is regularly hunted. There is a fenced perimeter all around the airport where you must keep out. It is continuously patrolled inside the airport fence. Outside the fence is farm land open to hunting if you have access from the land owner.

Jesus......You guys gotta PAY to shoot varmints???
You can bag gophers out here in Alberta for free. Heck, we even pay $50 bounty on wild pigs.
Me thinks a bad day shooting in Alberta is better than a good day in Kaybec :D

:) Talking about Pay to Shoot - you need Small Game License anyways. And yes if you are Quebec resident than it is just 15$ or so.

I am trying to get the spot and hopefully soon we may get together on some weekend and have some fun.

Will update here later. Whoever wants to participate - do not hesitate to drop here a line :)

Vincer,

What they are shooting out West are "spermophiles" (stop giggling, children). Here, we shoot "marmottes" (siffleur). You can burn through a barrel shooting those western critters - 100's per day. A "group" hunt for our "marmottes", while nice for the camaraderie, won't be very productive. Anything over 5 and you'd be doing very well.

I have loaded up some Barnes "Varmint Grenades", anxious to try them on the unruly marmottes... let me know which weekend as the weekends get booked up rapidly around here.

A couple of years back,
there was the Western drought.
and someone locally here started "Hay West",
to bring plentiful hay to the Western farmers.
Maybe someone could figure out a cheap way of getting Eastern shooters
out west in large numbers to help the Western farmers out
with their prairie dog problem.
