Well I got it in the mail this week and the second i grasped it I had to tear it down, see how it worked, clean her, and then took her out to the range with some high power CCI 40 grains. Man not one FTF or FTL out of 150 rounds. Shoots like a dream, mag fits tight, looks great (condition), and the guys at the range loved the feel and weight. I have to admit the sights are off or I am lame with irons. I am going back to the range tomorrow after work to tweak the sights and see what she can do with a little more time taken to adjust to the open irons. I am a scope guy so most of the problem may be me. It does have a flip rear peep sight with a 1/8 hole and a 1/16th hole. I used the smaller and still was messy for me. Love the gun and really am thinking about ditching my Squire and Bingham M1600 customize buildup. Most poeple know what these look like but if needed I can put up a couple of pics. No pics of the targets today since it was not a great grouping, for now.

Are they restricted?

when you clean it,be careful not to let the hammer fall on the post supporting the ejector.IT WILL BREAK LEAVING YOU WITH A WALL HANGER.
(when you hinge it open to clean the hammer could fall on the post)
how do i know this?:redface::redface::redface:

An old gun like this probably shouldn't shoot this well. A 15 shot clip at 25 yards with the old iron sights and it is about a 2 inch grouping with a couple touching and even same hole shots. I love this gun. Also a couple of guys at the range sheepishly asked to hold it and were surprised when I offered them the opportunity to shoot it. They loved it as well and the one guy said to keep him in mind if I sell it. Now a need a couple more mags for her.

Here are the pics and I included the traget from today at 25 yards, 5-10 kph side wind, 40 grain CCI high power.

The last pic is 25 yards with 2 mags, 20 rounds. thrilled with the performance. At the end I put 4 clips of bulk federal through her with no issues at all so I think it is a myth that these guns don't like bulk ammo. I did have a couple of light firing pin strikes and upon loadign those rounds into the gun they shot without issues. I will be stripping the gun down again tomorrow night to see if it is dirty still or if there is a bur on the firing pin.

The rifle was shot as I got it. The front post is movable if you loosen the allen set screw the sight rotates freely so I plan on bumping it over a bit so I can center the rear sight. The rear is adjustable side ways but not for elevation so aesthetically it looks a bit of but the gn does shoot straight. That little peep sight is easier to shoot with than the irons on my SKS and Norc M14.

That front sight housing has 2 screws in each hole, remove the top ones, they are lock screws, then loosen the ones that actually hold the housing to the barrel, before you try to move the sight housing!!!

Success!!!

Hey Drewz,

I tested out my 'tweaked' AP this morning ... SWEET ... no FTF's, or hangups ... I even took video ..

.. and I have the same bit with the sight post as in your pics .. rear is way over to the right to line up right ... but once lined up, it's dead on .. and it ran with both Winchester white box and Federal cheapie stuff.

Yours looks in excellent shape, and you have the extended mags too I see .. .. I'm jealous .. I just have the factory fifteens ...

Don't want to hijack you thread, so if you want me to give you a short tutorial on how I got mine running, PM me. I'm going to take a few pics to illustrate what I did. Now I can get my all-original AP-74 running smooth as well.

Cheers .. DT

Nice job, I have a line on another one in tougher shape finish wise and would liek to mod it with adjustable rear stock, custom front handguard or 4 sided rail. Man these are fun little guns. Start up a post or PM me about the tweaking process. THANKS!

So it wasn't just my imagination...:p

Mister, you're long overdue for a range report (or I missed it the first time 'round! :redface:), but the video and the target pic were impressive :cool:. 25-meter distance, right? :)
