current issue RCMP pistol

"Wicked Police" posted this info on a different forum a few days ago. Since it was in the open section I didn't think he would mind me passing this on.

But then again WP could have been messing with the guy who asked the question.

Who knows?

I know... ;)

I also posted that we were going to the HK 45 for ERT and PDS, the MR223 and 762 were going to be the long guns for ERT, and the patrol rifle was gonna be the MR223.

lol

I can be an ####### like that I guess.

the P30-L is a great pistol. Only thing I don't like is the really really long slide release lever.....it actually should be half that length. I believe a European agency cut the slide release lever. HK will probably/maybe make an optional shorter slide release.

I just skimmed it and saw the H&K reference, too bad. The pistol change over sounds possible but not the rest. Budgets are getting slashed pretty deep now the 5946 will most likely outlast this recession and maybe the next one lol.

I think the 5946 isn't going anywhere any time soon either. I've said it before, but for a general duty gun for the majority of members out there, it's a good piece of equipment.

For more specialized duties such as tactical or plainclothes/covert, I think there are far better options.

seen Wicked Police shoot before, yeah he can run fast splits. BUT you should C. Fast from the BC Sheriffs dept. shoot an 5946, scary scary scary. Issue gun, and he runs right along with all of us with our tuned guns, no problem at all.
Having shot a few thousand rounds through various 5946's including some through those black ones, I'll offer this. For a duty pistol they are heavy, with a sometimes brutal trigger pull. But they are incredibly accurate and solid guns.

What the hell makes one service pick one pistol and another pick a different one? I read that cops in Montréal and Québec City both use the Walther P99, but I can't find another North American police force that uses it. Granted, I haven't looked very hard...

Obviously, there's a certain amount of politics involved, but one would think that police forces would tend towards the same sidearm. It looks like quite a few forces use the 5946, still.

Seems to vary from region to region, In BC the some muni's jumped on the 96D bandwagon and then jumped onto team glock whilst others have gone with sig..........

I think the RCMP should be issued .54 cal kentucky pistols and dress like the french guys from from Monty Pythons holy grail.

This way i won't get hit by empty casings from their mp 5's.

Bad news for the RCMP,
Just heard from some ERT colleagues that the Sig P226 DAK is on hold. Something about Public Works getting involved and putting out RFI's RFP's and "tenders". The members said that they might end up with a ruger when all is said and done.

Poor bastxxds, sometimes the bigger the organization, the worse the politics.

I hope it works out and at least the ERT Teams get a new gun, Sig or HK.
