Hey Guys
I bought my first hunting rifle today, The bonus was I had about $2oo and sum in Canadian Tire money. The rifle is a Savage II combo CAL 243 WIN. I ended up spending just under $3oo for the setup brand new. I am looking for advise on shooting my first 20 or so rounds. I plan on keeping this thing for a long time so are there any tricks you guys know before shooting my first rounds through it would be appreciated. also an comments on if I got a decent deal and how people here like the Savage Arms.

P.S. Would like to know if there is anyone in the Calgary Area that hunts and could either Mentor or point me in the right direction on where to hunt ect.
Thx in advance

You got a savage combo for under $300???? Was that in addition to your Can-tire money or including. Locally that combo sells for $479 plus tax if you did better than that you got a real deal on a decent gun. Just because the Savage is not the prettiest gun on the market does not make it garbage, they shoot well and are very reliable.

Thx for the info guys, And it was just under $3oo after the CT money. I still think it is perfect for me for now. Pretty or not, I have my .22's to make pretty..lol

You'll get lots of different opinions about break in on here, and I've lived the experiment both ways. I've tried the clean after every shot break in, and I've tried just doing an initial cleaning and then shooting and cleaning at the end of the day. So far I've found no difference to tell you the truth so why bother with the elaborate break in?
Still, you're free to try it both ways and see if there's a difference.
A good place to find mentors is through AHEIA, I would start there.

I am jealous!!!! Have been saving Cdn Tire money on the card. Should have enough by next Spring for something nice, as I put all my work expense on there!!! ALthough my wife keeps getting my to buy annuals with the money at the moment.......

In Calgary, on McLeod Trail. They have a decent selection, and it is a nice alternative to helping my wife pick out seeds, etc. for the garden.

Other than Red Deer (which is the same owner as McLeod) I think the Southland and McLeod CT is the only one west of ONT that sells firearms. Decent selection aswell, approx 8 double cabnits full....good prices and staff. The owner must be a Hunter!!..
