Bought a new rifle w/CT money (Range Update)07/05/09

The Canadian Tire store in Kenora,ON sells new and used firearms, plus related accessories. They usually have an add in Canadian Access.

I grew up in Winnipeg and I remember goin to Kenora CT and lookin at their stuff..before hittin up the lake. Glad to hear they are still sellin.!.

The Canadian Tire in Red Deer actually has a HUNTING Manager:eek::D

His name is James, and he's a great guy.

I have about $150 in Canadian tire hard cash, about $270 on the card, and $300 in gift cards.....

RED DEER ROAD TRIP coming soooon!!!!:dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

There aren't enough dancing bananas to express my joy:D I just don't know what to get:confused:

Any Red Deer Gunnutz that want to post any intel on what's in stock there, or on sale, I would appreciate it:D

Last gun I bought there was a Savage model 116 stainless .270WSM with the Accutrigger and detach mag. It was $530  MINUS my Canuckle Bucks. I think I paid $200 for it or something.

James had a special buy on them. It was $100 cheaper than Wholesale's price at the time....

Might want to call ahead first to make sure the "gun guy" will be in that day .

I was up in Red Deer on Saturday, and I found some .38 spec that I wanted. So I went up to the counter and waited patiently until asked by the clerk if I needed help. I asked if he could open the cabinet, and he apologized, saying the "gun guy" wasn't in today, so it wouldn't happen.

A Saturday. Thousands of dollars worth of merchandise behind that door. In Red Deer, Alberta. I wonder how much that adds up to in lost sales?

Anyhow, don't get me wrong, I'm not making a federal case out of that or anything. I'm just happy I have 2 Canadian Tire stores that sell all that good stuff within 2 hours of my home. :) Financed nearly 1/2 of my SPS Varmint by CT money. They even shipped it down to Calgary from Red Deer for me. Great service.

The Macleod Trail Calgary store is great. The "Gun Guy" is very helpful, they have a decent selection, and are very helpful. I bought a Ruger there last year and even saved a little off the prices quoted to me at Wholesale and Russell's. Two years ago, I had a problem with a scope mount (on my Savage package gun, actually), so I went in on a busy Saturday. The guy did a bunch of work for free and just made me promise to buy my next rifle from him. I did, and I will not hesitate to go back to them again. I've always had great service there.

Also, nice buy on the Savage package. Had mine out a few weeks ago and was shooting 1" groups at 100. Mine is 7mm Rem Mag. Great buy, especially for the price.

Canadian Tire on Macleod Trail in Calgary has a great selection, both in firearms and ammo. Accessories, not so much.

The guys that work there are great, and beleive me, on Saturdays and Sundays, they run their asses off. The problem is, they are responsible for selling fishing licences, etc etc. Especially at this time of year. This takes a lot of their gun counter time. They should move that stuff to customer service, or at least share it with them.

The only other quibble I have, is that the guns are set quite far back from the counter, behind reflective heavy glass, and are packed together like sardines. You can't see them...all you see is a row of floorplates....! Don't get me wrong, it's a very impressive row. My buddies and I enjoy 'floorplate spotting' when we go there.

In thier defence, they do have all the manufacturers together, and the staff are so helpful, it's all good.

Congrats on your new rifle. Crappy Tires in my area don't sell firearms anymore. I bought my first "New" rifle from them many moons ago. A Winchester 30/30 lever. I still have the original bill. 299$.

Break in periods are overrated IMHO. The rifle was test shot before it left the factory, shoot it and when yer groups start to open up clean it. You should get good use of a .243. One of my fav. rounds. Fast, accurate, covers a large variety of game. Enjoy!

I think it is great your cdn. tire Still sells guns. The Cdn tire money is a bonus as well. Great story. I bought a BBQ from them a couple of years ago and a Propane tank at the same time. I went to the Canadian Tire Gas Bar to get it filled thinking I'd use the canadian tire money I just got back from the BBQ.....guess what ? They don't take Canadian Tire Money at the Gas Bar.

little loop hole for that is to take the CT money to the customer service and exchange it for a gift card. CT Gas bar accepts CT giftcards!!..;)

A little Update, Took my Savage out to the range. I rarely use paper targets but I had some with 6 small targets on one page. The range I go to isn't really clear on distance(Homestead second hill up) If I had to guess I would say 150-175 yards. Anyway I fired my first six shots came within 1 inch of the bullseye with one a millimeter off. This was right out of the box, needless to say I am very happy with it. As for breaking it in every shot I took I ran my snake through the bore. I think me and my Savage are going to be good friends....Now I need to find someone to go hunting with. :sniper:

Congrats on the new member of the family.
I have the same one and love it.

I was traveling through Wawa, ON a couple of years ago. Stopped into the C/T store to read the new flyer.
Walked out with a new Savage MK II. Had enough $ on the card to pay for most of it.
Never did read the flyer for that week...
