Russian SKS45 long thread.

Just got my notice from SIR, "Cabelas"... Not sure what to do, I have a really nice SKS from Frontier... The quality of the SIR rifles has not been the greatest, & they don't mention that they are matching etc, just that they are in "very good" condition... I think I'm going to sit on it for the weekend & mull it over...

Curtton... What do you think???

Cheers
Jay

Buy it then sell it to me @ cost! LoL!
But really...
I would use this as my shooter and keep my all matching one for display.

jay: when it comes to shooter grades , me buying from SIR thru the mail was the same price as buying a SKS in person from lever bcos of their low shipping and handling charges.

so if you aint fussy about black carrier then buy it cos you cant lose .

I hear ya curtton, if I wanted a shooter grade, I wouldn't be too picky... I decided to cancel my order because I already have a really nice Russian from Frontier & one from weimajack. Plus, when SIR/Cabela's wouldn't confirm any of the details on the rifle they wanted to transfer to my name, ie matching serials etc... I told them I'd pass...

Cheers

Hi all, I was just at Chilliwack Dart and Tackle and they have two IZH refurbs left. Price is $289. Not frankenpinned and no black bolt carrier. Just wanted to share.

i presume those wont last long when IZH next shipment arrives with frankenpinned mags , i hope not but thats what i heard.

Received my SIR/Cabelas SKS the other day.
Fine looking rifle, total cost with shipping $233.56.
1950 Tula with beautiful wood.
Trigger group is non-matching.
Stock has been replaced with another stamped 1950 stock.
Bolt and carrier have been replaced with a non-spring firing pin type.
Bore is bright with no pitting.

nice for $233.

forced matched SN?
non-spring firing pin came standard in that year.

I thought a 1950 should have a spring type firing pin, this rifle does not.
The forced matched serial number on this bolt is just scratched in the black paint and will most likely disappear once I remove the paint and polish it.
The forced matched serial number disappeared from the trigger guard when I polished it with 000 steel wool and gave it a shot of BBQ paint.

oooops, i got the wrong year of your russian . thats right the 1950 should have springed firing pin .

would you do me a favor and post pics of the forced matched SN on carrier and bolt, this is the first time i heard a non-springed firing pin bolt on a 1950 SKS45.

would you do me a favor and post pics of the forced matched SN on carrier and bolt,

Glad to, I'll snap a couple pictures of it tonight and post them tomorrow.

This rifle has the magazine serial number stamped on the left side of it so frankenpinning it didn't destroy that number.
It has a 45 degree gas block, no recess and 90 ears on the bayo lug and a step on the receiver.
Top cover latch has been replaced with the short tab type.

The Serial number was stamped on the side of the mag because when they frankenpinned it, the original serial number was destroyed. Common practice to re stamp on the side of the mag.

:D Funny you mention that, I was just reading that in curttons sticky. When looking at that mag yesterday those stamped s/n's looked old, goes to show how easy it is to misinterpreted things about these rifles. My other two were pinned by IZH.

Non-spring firing pin bolt from supposed 1950 refurbed SKS.

The stamp on the left of the magazine looked old to me, that's what made me think it was there to begin with until I read about those stamps in curttons sticky.
Looks can be deceiving.
SIR/Cabelas must have stamped that V on the receiver.
That V stamp looks new.

Did earlier today :D Looking forward to getting mine in a week or so.

Does anyone know where I can buy stripper clips? I am told aftermarket accessories like synthetic stocks are almost impossible to find here.
