high point pistols

can you get these in canada? i havn't seen them but would be a affordable choice i think. if you can and anyone has one opinions?
Yes, you can get them and yes they are affordable. But you get what you pay for. IMO, you'd be much better off buying a used gun from a more reputable manufacturer.

I have the .40 S & W version, and I love it. It has proven VERY reliable and accurate. They are quite hefty, as the heavy slide is needed to tame the recoil due to design, but that same weight actually makes the recoil quite manageable. I wouldn't hesitate recommending one.

Te slide is made of pot metal (cast zinc). It has to be massive in order not to crack.

It has to be massive in order to slow the recoil of the slide. Being a blowback system, it doesn't lock up, and uses the weight of the slide and a heavy spring to keep it closed until pressures drop to a decent level. By the sounds of your reply , you don't own one, just like to rag on those who can't afford the same pistols that are in your gun locker. (me)
I never said it was a world class pistol, but it shoots straight (due to the heavy fixed barrel), is reliable, and affordable. It looks mean and nasty....the way I like my pistols.

sounds good. i want a 45 and still deciding on a hi-point or norinco 1911. what about their carbines? they restricted? 16.5" barrel

What's "very reliable"? 200, 300 rounds from new without a failure? Sorry but Hi Point pistols are crap. Don't tell me you can't afford a better pistol. Its called financial discipline. Save your money and buy quality. $600-700 gets you any number of quality pistols.

Prohib because it was deemed to have a bullpup stock.

If you notice, the people on this forum who actually own the hi-point pistols are generally pleased with their value. The naysayers are entitled to their opinion, but how many of them have owned, shot, or even seen a hi-point in real life? Granted, the gun does not appeal to everybody, but if they have no personal experience with it I would personally take their opinion with a grain of salt.

What exactly doesn't make them a "reputable manufacturer"???

Is it the lifetime - no questions asked - warranty that you oppose? The availability of common parts??

Please.

And you have several thousand rounds of first hand experiance to back that claim up?

They aren't "crap", they're specific made for an intended market, namely people who want one, chose to own one, like handguns and can't or chose not to afford something better.

Are there better guns out there? Sure, no debating that, but for the price, they can't be beat.

I bet you've got a closet full of Norinco's, don't you?

Ignore TDC, we all usually do.

I dunno... spending a bit more money to get a much higher quality pistol doesn't sound like bad advice to me.

Personally, I'd +1 TDC on that thought.... ;)

NAA.

bullpups arn't illegal though. tavor, t97(jury's still out on that one) and others i'm sure. and it's not anywhere close to a bullpup. seems stupid. you buy a 9mm pistol it's ok but a carbine that shoots the same round is bad but beretta storms are ok. must be our govenrment doesn't like affordable guns

You're right, for the price they can't be beat because no one offers crap at such a low price point. I have handled hi point pistols, I have not fired any. Nor do I need to. Blow back service calibre pistols are technological dinosaurs geared for gangbangers and ignorant "gun owners". I'm asking you what your round count is that leads you to believe its reliable?

I don't own any Norinco's, just Glocks. They're tools, not mantle pieces.

ETA: Targettarget, you're a good guy as well, no hard feelings on my end.

Nothing wrong with being very opinionated:p.

Anyways, I like the High points. The gun has been around for a while now with many satisfied owners. I have yet to read a credible review where the complaint is anything but size, weight or aesthetics. Some are a bit rough too, but DIY work is fun on a gun like that.

And that's just it.

The gun works and is reliable. Believe it or not, there are people in the US that carry these guns for protection.

If it came down to it, I'd rather have a Hi-Point then a nothing.
