Buffer retaining pin/spring

What? Take them out and put them in a bag/pill bottle/tape together put in a drawer. What makes you think they need to be left in place??

Incorrect re-assembly.

Your buffer tube isn't screwed in far enough.

It holds the "Buffer Retainer and Buffer Retainer Spring" in place, not the buffer.

I think this guy is talking about something else, the Buffer Retainer and Buffer Retainer spring wont pop out if you managed to close the upper and lower and then did a pull on the charging handle and dry fire it.

If the buffer tube isn't screwed in far enough to retain these parts and the only thing holding them down is the buffer itself, when you pull back the carrier, the retainer will pop up and will jam under the carrier. Not fun getting it apart. Especially if it's stuck with the carrier between the upper and lower receivers.

Not sure how he means pulling the trigger under these conditions. The gun will jam with the carrier in a rearward position.

Ya your right easy it would jam up and it would be hell a hard to even close the upper with those pieces all loose, youd be better off removing the buffer retainer/spring and have a hassle of holding the buffer back with a screwdriver while you open/close the upper everytime.

fix your error from the start and screw the buffer tube in untill it holds the retainer down like they said in the first place.

My understanding is that the buffer tube is not to cover the little hole that the buffer retaining pin and retaining pin spring fit in to ..... but then there is nothing to keep the pin compressed .... help still

You need to insert the spring & retainer, then thread the buffer tube in. Hold down the retainer with your thumb as you thread the buffer tube in place, making sure to cover the main body of the retainer keeping it in place, but allowing the little pin to poke up. That little bit of pin is all that is needed to hold the buffer in place.

Awesome, guy takes apart his rifle and takes pictures to help a fellow gun nut out, now that's a nice effort to help a brutha out. I know, I know, I said "brutha". That's still Hella O.K. right?
