What is the difference in these 2 shotguns? I am at work and our lame internet filters blocks a lot of gun sites. (Thankfully not Gunnutz) I won't be home for 3 weeks and I can't wait that long for an answer.:)

Essentially, the M2s90 is "recoil" or Inertia operated. The entire gun moves back a little (due to recoil), and then once it stops the bolt carrier wants to keep moving back, thus cycling the action. Generally lots of weight will adversely affect cycling of the action. So putting optics, shell carries etc.... and lots of stuff on them can hinder them from running all the time.

The M4s90 has 2 gas pistons that push the bolt carrier back. The gun doesn't need to move at all, since all the force required to cycle them comes from the gas pistons. You can put pretty much anything you want onto it without worrying it will stop the gun from cycling. The M4s90 also has the lowest felt recoil of any shotgun I have fired :D

The M4 has a couple more parts (due to the pistons) however the GENERAL construction is pretty much the same (Aluminum receivers). The M4s90 is about 1 pound heavier, IIRC. The parts between the 2 are NOT interchangeable though.

The M1 is listed as Prohibited, as well as the M3.

The M2 is basically a more updated version of the M1 though, from what I have read. No idea on prices for the M1, if you have a prohib. license.

The m1 is not prohib. many are listed as field and sport or something like that and are non restricted.

Here is the CFC listing. The M1 on it sown by its very name is prohibited, but there are many variations that are not prohibited:

The firearms of the designs commonly known as the Benelli M1 Super 90 shotgun and the Benelli M3 Super 90 shotgun, and any variants or modified versions of them, with the exception of the:
M1 Super 90 Field;
M1 Super 90 Sporting Special;
Montefeltro Super 90;
Montefeltro Super 90 Standard Hunter;
Montefeltro Super 90 Left Hand;
Montefeltro Super 90 Turkey;
Montefeltro Super 90 Uplander;
Montefeltro Super 90 Slug;
Montefeltro Super 90 20 Gauge;
Black Eagle;
Black Eagle Limited Edition;
Black Eagle Competition;
Black Eagle Slug Gun;
Super Black Eagle; and
Super Black Eagle Custom Slug.

Just a note, the prohibited Benelli M1 cannot be own, it's in the same boat as the SPAS 12, completely prohibited.

Theres no prohibited license for it.

.

ahh good info. Didn't know they had different versions that were okay to own.

Curious as to how some ARE prohibited, and are not... The M2 Tactical is okay to own...

As far as I know the M1 Super 90 (prohibited) and the M1 Super 90 Field has no difference in terms of mechanical wise (same inertia recoil operate) except the M1 Super 90 has shorter barrels (14" to 20" depending on the model) and has mag extension (upto 7 rds mag) and optional pistol grip stock.

Some has ghost ring sight and some has rifle sight while the "Field" model is just a sporting model with longer barrels (26" or 28").

Basically this is just another screw up by the liberals because both Tactical and Field model is the exact same gun except with different barrel length and furniture.

If you looking for an alternative there is always the Beretta 1201FP which is almost the same gun except non-restricted if you have the 20" barrel (Beretta owns Benelli)

Here's a perfect example on the Benelli M3 (pump and semi in one-prohibited by our government) but the Beretta M3P (exact same action but remain un-detected by the radar as non-restricted) I would buy this one if money is not tight :( http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=350088

You can see clearly how screw the system is by looking at those two examples M1 S90 vs 1201FP and the M3 vs M3P.

Holy **** :O

I never knew such an animal existed, that thing is AWESOME :D

and yeah, our system is majorly stupid.... At least there are a few rarities that are non restricted.

I bought a few Lanny McGill ( ya I know :redface:) DVD's awhile back. His combat shotgun demo is the only DVD worth owning. It features the M4 shotgun among others (590, 870, Win, Benelli pump). The M4 is impressive to say the least. I'd be very inclined to pay the price difference for it over the M2.
