In an earlier post I'd mentioned that the deer had seen my tree stand and were staring right at it. The reason I got caught by them is that I set it up according to what I seen them do last fall but is opposite this spring. Let me clarify. Last year in the hunt I sat at the pond head and watched several till I took one. 90% of the movement was morning, but morning or evening they were ALWAYS moving east to west. Thats why I picked a west facing slope for the stand, thinking they'll blow right by. So I build stand, put up trail cam and flipo presto a 180 degree change. AM or PM their moving west to east now. Now I understand how they move out for winter to yards but whats this spring to fall? Do they switch back? Why? If they do will some not notice my stand then? Any thoughts

Oh ya , Deer go where ever , shelter/cover,food, and ###, are at their highest yield . seasons playing a major role.
Their numbers are fine , but better care (DNR) would avoid the great number of deer killed on the road, and their fine eating. :D

I'm still wondering though why all the movement around that lake head was east to west in the fall. And now its ALL west to east. Morn noon or night. 180 flip. Wondering if it'll flip back again come fall?

It is very simple. Deer migrate. In BC whitetail deer sometimes migrate distances like 150 miles, or more. Both species of deer commonly migrate from southern BC, into the US for the winter.

They migrate from summer range to winter yards here too.

I would suggest the change in movement may have something more to do with the availablility of summer feed being in a different locale than that in the fall.
Tender greens in open meadows and edges vs. acorns on a ridge ... that sort of thing.

time to build stand #2 and set up in another spot

X2 Patterns change every year. Watched one of the biggest bucks in my neighbourhood walk right under my stand one year. Unfortunately I was in stand #1 and he was under stand #2.:( A bit of luck involved in deer hunting I think? GOOD LUCK!
