Let's see some pic's of your SxS's & O/U's

feast your eyes on these knockers

SS, since you can't possibly shoot more than one at a time, I think you need to stop in Airdrie on your way south and let me help you out with shooting all those doubles.:D

Gorgeous guns, gentlemen, keep them coming. If I was interested in a nice upland 20ga SxS along the lines of some of these beauties, where would be a good place to start looking?

Mark, if your looking for a 20 sxs, call Clay at (rophet River about his Franchi Highlanders. Best price I've ever seen in them --- about $1000 off what everyone else is selling them for.
Cheers.

Buddy, you've got a serious addiction. You need help.

And let this be a warning to others - a love of fine double guns can BANKRUPT you!

12ga Berettas - 626E & 626 Onyx .... let's just say my picture taking ability is at par with my shooting ability and which can mean anything :)

Here is another of my favourites, J. Y. Potter 16 gauge BLNE with 29" barrels, completely refinished and an absolute dream to hunt.

Nice guns, Mark. A disproportionate number of my doubles are Damascus barreled, too. (and I like it that way)

Lets see…

- Jacket with blaze orange shoulder patch and built-in game bag
- Webley and Scott ball cap
- Stuffed ruffed grouse on the filing cabinet
- 4WD truck
- Buck mark mud flaps
- Long since started gun collection, now working on gun safe collection
- Twitchy right index finger
- Pointer sleeps in bed, wife sleeps on the floor
- Christmas cards from every gun shop every year

I know I get a little excited around season opening, but I’m not really addicted, am I? <<insert picture of De Nial River here>>

Sharing is good.

The demand for 20 gauge SXS’s is quite high. For that reason, they’re extremely hard to find on the used market. What kind of price range are you contemplating?

Figures I would want the high demand one... A nice light 12ga would be OK, but really 20ga is lots for upland birds. I was thinking of some of the older guns shown here, not a new one. Price range is probably not nearly high enough for most of these. Depending on the gun, anything between $1000-$2000 would be reasonable in my mind.

Where does one look for nice old doubles like the ones in thread?

Mark, are you comfortable with beaver tail forends? If so, try contacting user "H4831" on this site. I don't know if he still has it, but he had a real nice 20 ga Union Armera side lock. I would have bought it myself, but he didn't want to publish an asking price and I was afraid to insult him with my offer (since it would have had to have been restocked for me).

Bob, that Ideal is spectacular, makes me wish you had a shorter attention span thanI do. I'm pleased to hear you are enjoying the Rawbone, I hope it gets more use from you than it did here.

Straightshooter, I get all my guns out when my wife is out of the house too. I agree there is nothing prettier than a damascus gun.

Nathan, I do some of my own work, but mostly rely on a couple of good friends who have far more skill than I. But if I refer them any work, the new client gets my spot in line!!

Here is another of mine: Fredrick Williams, 12 gauge scalloped box lock, with 30" barells, 2 3/4" chambers 1 1/4oz proof and nicely engraved with large scroll & game scenes.

Thanks Nathan,

I am a big fan of Brit sxs's but I always seem to have a few American guns as well.

My current Sporting clays/Crow Crusher/Goose Thumper is a Parker Bros DH 12 gauge with 32" barrels, straight grip, choked IM & IM which I have recently had restocked & reblacked. It was made in 1903 & belonged to two well off Montrealers who burned lots of powder.

There's also a 16 gauge Parker VH in the stable.

Mark,

Excellent photo composition!! I love that first shot with W. W. Greener's book. What a classic. Your image of the J. Y. Potter 16 gauge on the zebra really brings out the damascus pattern, too. Nice guns. Nice work.

Better late than never! Here's my 2 favorites - a 12 ga BSS Sidelock with 28" barrels and a matching 20 ga with 26" barrels.

I've also got a BSS Sporter in 20 ga but I've decided to sell that so its on the EE.

My absolute favorite go to gun is my Merkel 16ga O/U. I'v had it for 5 years and to say the least, the gun likes me. I can't recall a missed bird with it. At 6 lb 4oz, it's just about perfect weight for a 16ga. The barrels are 28" and choked .005 & .008 (just about perfect for this neck of the woods). The only thing that I did to it was to replace the broken horn putt plate with a red rubber one. The gun is similar to a 200E but is not.
