Bear Rifle Suggestions?

Some of you folks think you need to spend a lot of money. :D

Methinks a $140 Mosin Nagant M44 Rifle would do the trick, Russians have been hunting Their much larger Brown Bears with 7.62x54R for well over a 100 years.

And you would have a handy fold out bayonet just in case yogi wanted to get in a parting chomp. :D

X2  Just what I had in mind.

Okay, it's unanimous then, 45/70...with high marks going to the 38/55, 30/30, .356Win., .35 Rem. as well. Most bear shootin' here and in Ont. is over bait, and 35yds. My biggest black bear was taken with a .44 Mag. Marlin and a 325gr. WFN GC at about 40 yds, broke both shoulders and dropped instantly.

Where the hells the fun in that? The man wants to build a gun...give him some damned inspiration!!!

.338-06 Sako with a 22" Barrel and a VXIII 2.5-8 .

If he wants to build a large calibre, powerful and accurate rifle, then more power to him.
But why the hell did he have to say it was for black bears, the easiest of all the larger north american game animals to kill? And certainly not dangerous to the shooter, if he happens to just wound one.

I have shot a couple of black bear with mine in a Mauser 66 one shot one Kill, I think you are on the right track. The ballistics are amazing considering the recoil is another major consideration.

:D

If you need to shoot a Bear with a rifle then like Rembo said - anything from 243 and up!

Your every day Deer rifle will work just fine.
