Info on 2009 IPSC Nationals

Now a bit of a negative. The actions displayed today by one particular shooter, stiring the pot, causing a massive s**tstorm was simply unacceptable. I seriously hope that our board of directors sees fit to have him at least DQ'd for unsportsmanlike conduct, and I think he should be sanctioned and not allowed to shoot IPSC for at least a year. If I was in charge it would be a lifetime ban. This particular shooter has caused s**t and bad feelings at pretty much every match I've ever been too and is the single biggest negative influence I've ever seen in the shooting sports. Thanks to his selfishness and blatant stupidity we all suffered and lost a very cool stage as a result. Thanks a**hole I hope people remember what you did vividly.
To Jim, Sean and everyone else involved with this match you have my thanks for a great match and my sympathies for what occured today.

Word is he was already dq which brought on the unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Personally I think it was pretty nice of him to drag his pnematic stage from Ontario to here. Not so nice to drag it back before everyone shot, but that is life. I know that if I was DQ I would go home immediately and take my stuff with me. Like everyone else I am putting my responsibilities on hold so that I can play at the Canadian Nationals.

I fired an employee on Monday of this week. She flipped out as do most of the folks that I have had to fire over the years. To me this does not make her a bad person it just means that she does not have the coping skills to deal with getting canned.

The Dude that was DQed just does not have the coping skills necessary to deal with that.

Oh dear. Being DQ'd happens. Push the limit long enough, and at some point you'll lose. How you deal with it matters. Quietly cursing yourself or your luck is acceptable. Respectfully questioning the call and pushing an arbitration if you feel you've been wronged is appropriate.

Acting like a spoiled child and taking your ball home with you is just wrong. We're adults. We need to act like it.

Most guys I've seen DQ'd tended to still help patch, score, and RO for thier squad mates.

Ban? Bit of over kill.
One important lesson to be learned is the down side of building a major match with equipment that the host range does not own.

Popped in today, to watch a bit of the action. I wish I could have shot the match after seeing the amount of prep time and work involved (and I'm happy I didn't after watching the long shot stage which would have run me dry ;P ) nice shooting everyone!

Slavex it was nice meeting you today sorry about the foot stay away from schoolzones.

Dealers - BRING TUMBLERS next time, dammit I brought the visa and everything!

Oh yeah, I brought my son out for a bit this afternoon, and he had fun getting a short ride in a golf-cart, and following me around to the stages. The plates over on Range 7 were the most fun to watch for him, with all 8 falling one after another.

Many thanks to all for their many hours of hard work getting everything up and running, and special thanks to those who let me shoot through to get through all the stages!

I can't believe that people came to our little part of the world to shoot a match only to get royally screwed by the douchebag thieves that infest our crime ridden town. I hope no guns got stolen.

I would be willing to bet they will be back again because thieves are stupid and won't be able to resist the temptation. Be nice to set up a little sting operation.

you do have a lot them there. I was told today that a friend just had the window of his car smash and stuff taken. You would thing with that many guns and ammo in town that the cops would be around the hotel more often

in listening to the three officers that were dispatched to handle the break ins, they didn't even know that the Nationals were happening!

I would like to thank Sean and Jim and the rest of the Nova Scotia crew and the excellent officiating for a really fun Nationals. I also owe these two lads and Fred a great deal of thanks for helping me out with the loan of a gun, holster and accessories. I enjoyed myself immensely. I had forgotten how much I have enjoyed this sport over the years. It is great to be here and I am sad to be headed home so soon. If only this could have lasted another couple of days!

Unless a sporting event was expecting a large crowd of spectators and the associated go-with-its such as crowd control issues or traffic issues, the local police likely wouldn't have known about it.
Perhaps they weren't advised. I know no one at my detachment were aware of it except the ones I told about it.
Plus the airport area is at the edge of 2 different detachments of the RCMP. One of which isn't staffed 24hrs.

Actually, the local police were very aware of the competition as there are members that shoot IPSC. However, that area is RCMP jurisdiction, not HRM local cops. I would think by default the RCMP would be well aware of the competition, since they administer the CFC and I am pretty sure the CFO was out to the range to inspect it for safety. Not a big stretch to imagine lots of guns and ammo being stored in one place at the match hotel, making it a prime target for thieves with half a clue.

This all goes to show how well the registry is working out for us. When stuff like this happens, it gets used to put tighter rules in place to further restrict gun owners. Never mind that this was a perfect incident in which the registry could have been used to actually prevent a crime if the RCMP utilized due diligence

It is especially sad because I know that IPSC Nationals were sponsored by Shooters Bar and Grill which is located about 200 meters down the road from the Enfield RCMP detachment. They have a big sign up on the raod that said "WELCOME IPSC SHOOTERS!" Not much of an excuse to say they didn't know.

RCMP is too busy with the CFO offices investigating & scrutinizing the legitimate transfer of registered firearms from one licensed owner to another. They don't have the time or resources to go after bad guys. This is not meant as a slam to LEO's, but the system as a whole.

Yep, kind of sad, isn't it? All that paperwork for transportation, registration of firearms, documentation at the airports, secured firearms and ammunition.

And they don't have a friggin' clue!!!!

Where is Barney Fife when you need him?

Hey Warren...it was great to see you two at the match...

I will ask for a copy of the results to be sent to IPSC Ontario HQ...and we'll get them up on the website for the members who were here from Ontario

They will likely also be put up on the Match website (linked from the IPSC Canada website)

Cheers

Craig
