Best lube/grease for AR

CLP works great, I now mostly use G96 because it doesn't seem or smell quite as toxic/aggressive as Break Free.

No grease goes into my AR. I know what happens when I shoot my gun, and I've never had a lubrication issue using CLP (as directed for the climate) on military or personal weapons in 20 years shooting the AR FOW.

Militec works great too, but I don't have any.

I've used motor oil (etc) as required, which lube fine, but stink, mess, etc. Emergency use only.

Whatever floats your boat though....

I use CLP, buy it buy it by the gallon. Use it all my firearms, sometimes a couple dabs on my chin if I am going out for the evening!

I do use grease too on the surfaces that require lube, but use it sparingly. Usually my AR is nice and wet with CLP.

Brand new Sabre Defence 14.5" M4 with 1200 rounds through it so far, not one failure.

CLP I find will take off most firing residue, you just require some elbow grease and some proper tools, toothbrushes, patches etc. I do love Breakfree though, I think its a wonderful product.

I love lithium grease for the Dillon 550, keep that think smooth as silk and the rounds pumping out! Never yet tried lithium based lube on a firearm, probably because I see no real reason to change what has worked for 20+ years.

And Tactical Response does?

No one is saying they know all. The military uses whatever is provided and its usually what's cheap. CLP is crap I don't care how you look at it. Oils drip, burn, and blow off during use. A good grease does not. The Swiss Arms rifles come with grease. I'm not saying that's a definitive answer to the dilemma. I'm simply saying that I doubt the Swiss would endorse and sell their rifles with grease if it were in anyway inferior to oil.

G96 smells better :p

Right there is why I no longer use CLP. With G96 it's a metal conditioner and lubricant. It isn't very good as a solvent... but it gets into the pores of the metal and makes it super slick. After the metal has been seasoned with the stuff, you don't have to use a solvent or scrub. You just wipe the carbon off with patches. Very easy, and it doesn't truly "dry" out. It goes into the pores of the metal. Plus I can vouch that it works in -50 :(. Best stuff I've ever used. I use it with my long term loan firearm which has to work no matter what. ;)

If it's not winter temperatures: CLP always. It's never failed me in any non-freezing temperatures, whether it be here in the various conditions throughout Canada, or in the jungle or desert. Always CLP.

ok first with the CLP it has teflon in it that is why you have to shake it up first to get that white goop in the bottom to mix in so if it seperates in the bottle what dos it do in your gun second there is a lot of shock going through the bolt in an ar so a oil dose not deal with this shock like a grease would and oil runs grease dose not oil works well when the oil flowing creating the oil wedge effest that is why it works in an engin but when the oil stops flowing it gets pushed out so a oil works to clean a gun not lube it a grease is beter here is an interesting pice on gun lube and cleaning products it might help
