iSnipe v2.0 - Shameless Plug

I have not had the chance to try the app yet so I don't know how well it works. Like I said in an earlier post I am having issues with the weather portion of the app. I realy like it becaus it has basically every caliber from .17cal-.50BMG. If you listen to a lot of music than get the iPod. I am very happy with my iPhone. Don't listen to much what the guy at future shop said becaus he will sell you something that he likes. Do your research and see if it is something you can use or not.

The guy at Future Shop came right out and said that he hates them. But also said that he has nothing else to offer for sale.

I guess what I am looking for is opinions from those who have used the program to see if it worth while getting one. I would say that I have gotten my answer.

Now I know why you have 5,912 posts...buy it/ don't buy it/ he said/ she said/ sales guy hates them/ bosses wife hates them, any one else you going to ask??

I have had my iPhone for about 2 weeks now so I can tell you that it is great, can't tell you much about the iTouch.

The iSnipe program rocks, it has more info than I will ever be able to use but at the very least I can calculate bullet drop for every thing I own. If you have a Kestrel or other wind meter you would be able to make full use of the program. Imputing wind direction and speed is simple and easy. I could never guess how many factory loads exist in its databank, (approx 100 for the 308 Win alone) but it has them all, and if you reload or have a wildcat you just input the data, give it a name and save it for reference.

The other useful app I got was a Motion-X GPS app, it enables me to mark way points (plus take photo and attach it to waypoint) for my scouting and trail camera setup. Even when I am out of cell coverage (most of my hunting areas) the GPS still works fine.

Again, I am talking about the iPhone. I do know a guy who has an iTouch (he likes it) but unless you are locked into an existing plan just get the iPhone.
 
I love the iphone - I have a 15 year track record of building software that has been used by many well known companies and smaller businesses too. I am a Windows guy... and build Windows Server based applications.

Anyways, the iphone is very easy to use - and it syncs data with Itunes / Outlook etc... so even if you did have to reset the phone your data would still be on your computer from your last sync.

My tip is to buy a screen protector and a thin iSkin protective cover if you are active. iSkin makes combination kits...

Finally - I would never trust a guy at Future Shop for any sound advice. They are often clueless about anything. There are good people there, but they are the last people I rely on as a store for advice.

Anyone who sells Monster Cable is suspect in my books.

Thanks for your support... As with any iPhone App, updates are free for the life of the app. If you want to send me the ballistic info for your favorite loads (B.C and muzzle velocity) I'll make sure they get added to the next update.

Ballistic coefficient exaggerations by manufacturers

"the majority of bullets tested have their previously published ballistic coefficients exaggerated from 5-25% by the bullet manufacturers. These exaggerated ballistic coefficients lead to inaccurate predictions of long range bullet drop, retained energy and wind drift."

Check out the chart in the above link. Some published values are *way* off.

This has real implications for the usefulness of these ballistics programs. I use Bulletflight which recently (?version3.1.0?) has come up with a good solution in my opinion. From the help screen in Bulletflight:
"Bryan Litz, the author of Applied Ballistics, has provided a database of G7 values that were carefully measured. These are often better than the advertised BC values provided by each bullet maker."

When you select these Brian Litz values, the G7 numbers are hidden. You have to buy his book if you want the numbers. Presumably KAC is either paying Brian Litz for his values and / or Brian Litz is using this exposure as advertisement to increase book sales. Either way, the shooter with Bulletflight gets accurate BC data which leads to more accurate trajectory calculations.

Other programs could presumably use these values, but I doubt it would be free for the developers.
 
Alright guys/girls, iSnipe 3.0 is now finished and about to be submitted to Apple for review. This process usually takes about 7 days (but can be quicker), at which time I will be increasing the price of iSnipe to $8.99 with an optional $0.99 In-App Purchase for the Coriolis/Spin Drift upgrade, bringing the total price to $9.99 for all possible features.

If you purchase iSnipe sometime in the next few days, before 3.0 goes live, you will only pay $5.99 and will get the new update for free... add the optional $0.99 In-App purchase that will be introduced in v3.0 and that brings the total to $6.99 (a saving of $3 for those of us who can't count :p )

Long story short, if you're interested in iSnipe for your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad, get it now or forever pay more =)

P.S. Bryan Litz's bullets are included in iSnipe v3.0 - we too hide the value of his B.C.'s in order to encourage shooters to read his book... it's worth every minute.

I realized I didn't get back to this post and thought I'd answer it now for those who are thinking about an iPod Touch.

The iPod Touch actually runs a bit better than the iPhone (contrary to what many people seem to think). I own an iPhone and an iPod Touch and the iPod Touch runs the fastest... since it doesn't have the extra cell-modem to run in the background.

The limitation is that Apple stopped using Skyhook Wireless's database for devices without a GPS chip, so you can no longer find your location automatically using an iPod Touch or a WiFi-only iPad.

You can of course input your own location/weather details - which many users do.

Max, after looking into this it turns out we do have this ammo included - it's just labeled a little differently. You're looking for the Federal Sierra MatchKing BTHP in 168 and 175gr.

I'll get the label updated in the new version.
