I disassembled my SKS and now I can't get it back together

No, I didn't forget where any of the parts go, they warned me about that during the CFSC. After removing the bolt, bolt carrier, recoil spring, and the gas system, I was able to remove the trigger assembly and magazine from the receiver by pushing in that button on the back of the trigger assembly. Then I removed the receiver and barrel from the stock and removed the bayonet and associated spring system from the end of the barrel.

I've since soaked the parts in hot water, run hot water through the barrel and the gas system, dried everything, and reattached the bayonet to the end of the barrel. I've also been able to put the receiver and barrel assembly back into the stock; however, it's the next step which is giving me trouble.

I've read that I'm supposed to put the magazine in and then the trigger assembly. It seems simply enough and it fits in, but not quite. It's not snug like it was before. That button thing that you're supposed to push with a punch on the back of the trigger assembly isn't holding the trigger assembly, I can't get it to go all the way in. I don't know what to do. :( Please help.

Which position is on? I did already try it with both positions: up horizontally and alongside the trigger-guard vertically, with little success. I don't know how to use the safety though, the gun didn't come with a manual and there isn't a red part.

IIRC up is on and down is off. They are a bit fidgity at times but it will go, just dont hammer on it.:welcome:

Thanks for the link, that video was very helpful. Your memory was correct, up is on for the safety. I was able to fully reassemble my SKS. :)

After checking that the magazine was properly positioned, I inserted the trigger assembly and with the gun laying upside down on my desk I pushed down with my hands shifting most of my weight onto the trigger assembly. This worked quite well for me and I didn't need any tools.
