I am not sure but on the EE there was a savage 10FP in .308 for $650. The savage system makes alot of sense. I got a remmington because... well that was a good deal for what I got and i wanted something now insted of waiting to buy a stock and custom stuff that came with my gun...
I just decided to get into the long range stuff and the .308 was what I went for.
Financially the Savage is cheeper but the quality is that or better then remmington and the system works and works well...
if you are going to be blowing off lots of rounds Why not a .223? The .223 will go to 600yds everyday...
I talked to a guy that owns a LR3 Blaser topped off with a S&B AND a leica 1200 range finder and he has only ever shot to 600yds!! and that is what he thinks is LONG RANGE... And then there are people that are shooting stock Remmington R-5's in .308 out to 1300-1500yds.
I would take a good look at that Savage 10FP and see if that will do the trick for you.. it has everything you need to start to shoot, optics included.

He posted the question "What do you think of these?" and then pasted a link to those Aussie Arms Lee-Enfield knock-offs.
From <$600 .338 LM to LE clones.
Probably should be posting these questions in the Newbie section...
Maybe you should pass by this post instead of being a snobby bottomless pocket elitest. It's people like you who turn people off of this sport. Not everyone has 3000 bucks laying around to buy a rifle. But some people think you have to spend alot of money to get stuff done. Some people know its the shooter not the gun.
Like when I got into 2 channel stereo and the guys from the sites who would come on the thread saying if you didnt have $3000 to not waste your time. I built my 2 channel with tube amp for less than 800 and I have guys from my forum that come to visit me and still cant believe what I've done.
So now I'm pissed up and ready to build my shooter for less than 600 bucks just to prove to the other new people here not to listen to the elitest people trying to bring you down
