I am looking at getting a M16 style assult rilfe thats not restricted. This isn't for anytime soon but I would like time too see whats out there and look at price points....would like to keep it under $1,500.00 before taxes if posible. The only MUST for me is durability/quality. I want a non-restircted one if possible to have a adjustable butt stock but its not a BIG deal. I want it non-restricted so I can use it more often and easily. I have seen the C7 assult rilfe made by Colt Canada and I like it, is there a civilian verison of this?

There are no unrestricted 'assault rifles'.

There are some military styled semi-autos. The Robinson XCR, or the AR-180B2.

What's an assult rifle? If you want to handle what the media refers to as an assault rifle you'd best join the military.

Non-restricted M4 'style' adjustable stock rifle... good luck.

M16 style non-restricted you have almost no options... except you can check out the AR180B-2

Uhhh...

well sorry I didn't know this was a common question.....I figured it it had over an 18" barrel and the overall length was okay that it would be the same as say a semi auto BAR hunting rifle.....they both can't have over 5 rounds in the mag so I don't see the big deal?

Ar15 type rifles including the AR180b can legally have 10 round magazines, they're referred to as LAR15 mags. Also, M1 garands are semi-auto rifles which can legally hold 8 rounds.

And since when are firearms restricted/prohibited based on their internals or actions anyways?? I'd bet nearly all of them are classified based on their appearance. :p

You might enjoy a Ruger Mini 14. They can be had for a reasonable price, and can be tricked out with different stocks and optics as your budget allows.

Magazine capacity limits are determined with reference to the original firearm for which the magazine was designed.

In the case of the LAR15 10 round magazine, the LAR15 pistol is the firearm for which the magazine was originally designed. Since this pistol is readily available in Canada and semi-auto pistols typically fall under a 10 round magazine limit, it is legal. It just so happens to also fit an AR15/M4 rifle, which is great for gun owners :)

There's lots of discussion on this topic, the search function should help.

The M1 garand is a specific exemption from the limits, as are a couple other rifles that I can never remember.

The bottom line, they're are no capacity restrictions on rifles. They're are only capacity restrictions on magazines.

No, AR-15 and AR-180 magazines are pinned to 5 rounds. No centrefire rifle outside of the few exceptions can legally have 10 round magazines. LAR-15 pistol magazines may fit into those guns, but they are not magazines FOR those guns. Very distinct difference.
