What are my choices in 22LR?

The list you're after would require hours to compose. I suggest you just go to each of the major suppliers and see what they have for rimfire firearms since that is what we would have to do to build the list you're asking for.

Semi auto or bolt/revolver action?

Nothing wrong with wanting .22 firearms in both hand and long gun options but this IS the Pistol and Revolver forum so you're really only kosher to talk about the handguns here.

This is a VERY open ended question. You may want to offer up a few more specifics such as semi vs revolver as far as the handgun part goes.

As for what .22 handgun to get as a first time deal this is a popular topic. Try the search for starters and be prepared for a lot of back reading.

My own choices ended up being a Winchester/Cooey 600 bolt rifle along with a Tanfoglio Force22 and S&W 422 pistols. I'm very happy on all counts but these suit my tastes in how much I want to interact with my firearms on a lot of levels.

For semi auto you could do far, far worse than a Ruger pair comprised of a 10/22 rifle and a Mark II or III pistol

For non semi a Henry lever action along with a Ruger Single Six would be a nice pair.

Then there's any number of bolt action rifles.

Also I can't help but think that you intended this to go in the Rimfire forum rather than Pistols and Revolvers...... :D

I just bought the Norinco E322 from marstar. An excellent man-sized bolt action for about $220. Comes with 2 mags. Bolt looks like it came out of a Anshutz. Dual extractors.

Very nice rifle. failing that, a Savage.

For a pistol, the Ruger semi-auto is hard to beat for the money.

Serious? You don't have many choices. Might want to figure out what you want (bolt, lever, semi etc.) and how much you would like to spend first.

You could pick up a used Cooey for $50 or easily spend a couple grand on a Anschutz rifle. Same for a handgun.

Actually I'd say he has more choices than in any other type or caliber. There's nothing at all like the variety you get in .22LR in any other caliber or style of firearm. Remember too that he's asking for a long gun as well as a handgun in a very open ended sort of manner.

Buckmark rifle and pistol.

Pistol

They both use the same mags, so they are interchangeable. They both like the same ammo, so no need to stock 2 or 3 or 4 difernt kinds.

Cheers!

I went for a Lakefield 91T for the rifle and have been very, very pleased.

My Buckmark Countour 5.5 should be here any day now :)

I think it depends a lot on a) your budget and b) the intended use.

For plinking $50-$400 will get something quite nice, but for target shooting (Anschutz for rifle, S&W 41 for handgun) you are talking thousands...

Then you have the middle ground with the Savage and CZ rifles and Buckmarks/U22 Neos/Ruger 22/45. etc.

You could also go the route of a .22 pistol that is easily converted to a bigger caliber (Sig 220R/226R/229R Classic) or a service pistol is easily converted to .22 (Glock, CZ, 1911, I think Beretta, etc)

If you are into wheelguns, the choices broaden even more! Single action: Ruger Six Single. Double action: S&W 22/17/617

As others have said, plenty, plenty of choices!

I should know, since I was in the same situation a couple of months ago and the amount of possibilities is quite mind blowing...

I am interested in buying a 22LR rifle and handgun. What are my choices? Can someone make up a list I can browse?

Kinda endless.... ;) :p
