I went for a Lakefield 91T for the rifle and have been very, very pleased.
My Buckmark Countour 5.5 should be here any day now
I think it depends a lot on a) your budget and b) the intended use.
For plinking $50-$400 will get something quite nice, but for target shooting (Anschutz for rifle, S&W 41 for handgun) you are talking thousands...
Then you have the middle ground with the Savage and CZ rifles and Buckmarks/U22 Neos/Ruger 22/45. etc.
You could also go the route of a .22 pistol that is easily converted to a bigger caliber (Sig 220R/226R/229R Classic) or a service pistol is easily converted to .22 (Glock, CZ, 1911, I think Beretta, etc)
If you are into wheelguns, the choices broaden even more! Single action: Ruger Six Single. Double action: S&W 22/17/617
As others have said, plenty, plenty of choices!
I should know, since I was in the same situation a couple of months ago and the amount of possibilities is quite mind blowing...
